Guide: Installing Cuboid Keeper on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Cuboid Keeper? Features and Description

Cuboid Keeper is a fast-paced arena shooter with a gripping storyline and an unique spaceship building system. Take control of the legendary Guardian of the Cube and face four advanced civilizations hell-bent on defeating you.

In Cuboid Keeper, you do not enter a dungeon full of enemies to claim its riches. Instead, you defend it, against countless heroes and armies, hell-bent on defeating you and reaching the chamber that holds an ancient galactic secret.

Your vessel, a legendary Guardian feared by the whole galaxy, constantly switches between a fully materialized offensive mode and a reduced, small and fast defensive one. It grows in power and size as the game advances.

The plot is progressively unveiled through dialogs and short stories. You will be told how desperate and hopeful your adversaries are, before mercilessly turning them to dust. But are your actions really rightful?

Features

  • Solid controls (twin stick style), easy to learn, but hard to master.
  • Ability to play with keyboard only, keyboard + mouse or controller.
  • A constantly evolving ship: it grows after each level and new modules are regularly unlocked, forcing the player to adapt his playstyle.
  • 40 hand made levels, with 8 mini bosses and 8 bosses.
  • A captivating story about four advanced, but flawed, civilizations and an ancient secret giving hope to the entire galaxy.

User Reviews

“One of the better [shoot 'em ups] I’ve played.”
4/5 – Billy White, Game Industry News

“It’s nerve-gripping, it’s sweat-inducing, and it’s, above all else, great fun.”
Mcportugalem, Indie Gamer Team

“On top of solid shooting action and enemy patterns that reminded me a bit of a 360-degree Galaga and a soundtrack inspired in part by classic techno – complete with rave whistle – Cuboid Keeper also features an intriguing, high concept sci-fi narrative a la Arthur C. Clarke [...]”
