Guide: Installing Pro Motion NG on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Pro Motion NG? Features and Description

Pro Motion is not only a powerhouse of tools for creating pixel art and animations in general, it also offers many custom features to help you perfectly match the color fidelity, resolutions and graphical limitations of classic game consoles and computers.

An industry standard for two decades, talent from game studios like Yacht club Games, Wayforward, HalfBrick studios, and many more, have been using Pro Motion to create the sprite animations, static images, environment art, and tile-sets for their top tier pixel art games.

The latest version, Pro Motion NG, continues to add and improve upon an already proven and powerful tool-set, enabling pixel artists of all skill levels to bring their imaginations to life.

Dive right in and use the basic brush tools in conjunction with the layer features to sketch out your design.. quickly and easily perfecting the desired sizes, shapes and placement of all key elements - then use the large array of drawing, blending, dithering, and shading features to refine your objects and add detail.

Use the rich array of color management tools to finalize your overall color scheme and arrange your indexed color palette.

Once your mock-up has allowed you to reach the desired aesthetic and designs, branch out to specific project files to begin working on the individual assets, animations, and tile-sets. Change layer opacity or blending mode for special effects. You can even simulate specific console effect modes like the transparency effects seen in Super Nintendo games.

Create a master project which displays your other projects as separate layers, so you can always see how the most recent and polished versions of all your assets work together to form a finished game screen.

Use the large array of features such as onion-skinning, animated brushes, and time-line editing to animate all the characters, effects and objects for your project. Even use classic color-cycling features to bring single images to life.

Pro Motion NG is not only a powerhouse of tools for creating pixel art and animations in general, it also offers many custom features to help you perfectly match the color fidelity, resolutions and graphical limitations of classic game consoles and computers.
