This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A brutal 2D action platformer filled with deadly spikes, traps and enemies. Master movement, combat and skills to survive. Every level is a new challenge. Do you have what it takes?

It was just another Friday night.
You were sitting in your room, controller in hand, losing yourself in the glow of the TV screen. The pizza was getting cold. The world outside didn't matter. It was just you and the game — the way it was always meant to be.
Then something happened.
The screen flickered. The colors twisted. The room around you began to blur and stretch, like reality itself was being pulled apart at the seams. Before you could react, before you could even scream — the TV swallowed you whole.
You wake up in a dark, cold dungeon. Stone walls. Torchlight. The distant sound of something shuffling in the shadows. And then a voice — desperate, familiar, human.
"Hey! Over here! Keep it down — they'll hear you!"
His name is Roman. He's been trapped here longer than he can remember, surviving on instinct and sheer stubbornness. He doesn't know how you got here. He doesn't know why. But he knows one thing with absolute certainty:
"I need your help to get out of this world. And trust me — this world does NOT want us to leave."
Spikes&Traps is a brutal, unforgiving 2D action platformer where the environment is your greatest enemy. The ground beneath your feet hides razor-sharp spikes. The walls launch arrows the moment you get too close. Platforms collapse under your weight. Pendulums swing without warning. And the enemies — the zombies, the creatures that lurk in the dark — they don't stop. They don't rest. They don't care how many times you've already died today.
Because in this world, death is not the end. It's just the beginning of another attempt.
You are not helpless. As you push deeper into this cursed world, you grow stronger. You learn. You adapt.
Wall Jump your way up sheer vertical surfaces, reaching places that seem impossible
Dash through danger at blinding speed, slipping past traps that would shred anyone else
Double Jump to clear gaps that stretch across the abyss
Glide through the air, buying precious seconds to plan your next move
Stomp enemies into the ground from above, turning their own aggression against them
Climb walls, navigate narrow passages, and find paths that others would miss
And when the enemies get too close — you have a sword. Use it well.
Every challenge you overcome makes you stronger. Earn experience, level up, and invest in a deep skill tree that lets you shape your playstyle. Unlock new abilities. Upgrade your stats. Become the kind of warrior this world fears.
But choose wisely. Every skill point matters. Every upgrade could mean the difference between escaping — or becoming another forgotten soul in the dungeon's endless darkness.
Roman isn't the only soul trapped here. As you explore, you'll encounter NPCs — survivors, wanderers, lost souls with stories of their own. Some will give you quests. Some will warn you of dangers ahead. Some might even help you, if you earn their trust.
Complete missions, collect rewards, and piece together the mystery of this world. Why does it exist? How do people end up here? And most importantly — is there really a way out?
Spikes&Traps does not hold your hand. There are no tutorials that pause the game and explain everything. There are no checkpoints every thirty seconds. There is no easy mode.
There is only you, the level, and the question: how many times are you willing to die before you figure it out?
If you've ever thrown a controller in frustration and then immediately picked it back up — this game is for you.
If you believe that the best victories are the ones you had to earn — this game is for you.
If you want a 2D platformer that actually challenges you — this game is for you.
