Guide: Installing Watching the Sky on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Watching the Sky? Features and Description

Watch clouds, control the weather, play music, and pretend this was exactly how you planned to spend your evening. Watching the Sky is a calm observation sandbox with no combat, no quests, and absolutely no pressure.

Watching the Sky is a relaxing observation sandbox about doing what humanity has done for thousands of years: looking up and pretending it means something.

Sit back, control the weather, listen to music, and watch the sky change over time. Clouds drift. Rain falls. Storms happen. The sun does its job. It is all very dramatic, if you have the right attitude!

There are no enemies to defeat, no epic questline, no chosen one, and no world-ending threat. Nobody is waiting for you. Nothing explodes because you failed a timer. You simply observe, adjust the atmosphere, and enjoy the strangely satisfying experience of watching weather happen on purpose.

Use the quick tools to shape your session. Create a peaceful sunny afternoon, a dramatic storm, a quiet night, or whatever sky-based mood your extremely specific emotional state requires.

Watching The Sky is for players who enjoy relaxing games, atmospheric sandboxes, ambient experiences, weather systems, and the brave act of doing basically nothing for a while.

      Features

      • Watch the sky change over time

      • Control weather and atmospheric conditions

      • Create calm, dramatic, or needlessly moody sky scenes

      • Relax with a built-in music player

      • Add your own music, because apparently the sky needed a soundtrack

      • Unlock Steam achievements for the noble art of looking upward

      • Enjoy a pressure-free sandbox with no combat, no timers, and no failure states

      • Experience clouds doing cloud-related activities

      A game about doing less

Watching The Sky is not about winning.

It is about sitting there. Looking up. Changing the weather because you can. Playing music because silence got awkward. And realizing that, somehow, this is enough.

Look up. Stay awhile. The sky is not going anywhere.
