This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Welcome to Space Salvage Simulator. Saddled with an unfair debt, you're locked in a forced labor camp on the edge of the galaxy. Scavenge and craft from an endless stream of trash to earn an honest living, or bet it all in the underground arena for a quick jackpot. Pay your debt, buy your freedom!
In the distant future, humanity discovered the mysterious substance 'Ether' and embarked on a path of explosive expansion. "What is left in the wake of humanity's conquest across the stars?" Philosophers, activists, and politicians debate this endlessly. But if someone asked you right now, your answer would be simple: nothing but a massive mountain of garbage.
Why?
Because you fell victim to a joint-surety scam and got dragged off to a waste disposal station on a prison planet at the edge of the galaxy. To get out of here—or just to survive another week—you have to work every single day to pay off your massive debt.

The endless junk pouring onto the conveyor belt day after day isn't just trash; it's a recyclable resource and your only ticket to salvation.
Unlock numerous blueprints and use over 15 different crafting tools. Grab the debris, process it, and transform the scraps into high-value goods.

You can't just pop down to the local mart or visit the neighboring planet's mega-mall. This is a prison you know.
You have to make everything yourself—from the tools you use, to the very opportunity to escape this hellhole.
Sick of doing honest work? Of course you are, Who doesn't?
Fortunately, there's a place even in this miserable joint for people who want to get rich quick.
And for those people, this prison offers a very tempting alternative.

Welcome to the weekly Arena—where the line between "sports" and "bloody gang warfare" is practically non-existent. As a non-violent financial criminal, you aren't allowed to fight in it (or even watch it, really—you just get bullied out of your lunch money). But hey, the betting pool is open to everyone!

Chase that jackpot dream by betting on the Arena, or try your luck at the infamous fair matching game that has bankrupted countless inmates before you.
That is... if you have a really sharp eye.
"No man is an island"—and that goes double when you're locked in a space prison.

Buy insider info from sketchy brokers to conquer the betting pool with actual strategy, or eavesdrop on the bartender for some juicy tips. Interact with a colorful cast of inmates, complete their quests, and reap the rewards.

Will you reclaim your hope and buy your freedom through endless, grueling labor? Or will you just be buried alive under an infinite stream of cosmic trash...?

And more importantly... can you uncover the dark secret hidden deep within this station?
