Guide: Installing Ratnik on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Ratnik? Features and Description

A battle is won before it begins. Ratnik is a medieval auto battler focused on smart unit composition, positioning and counterplay. Defeat powerful Lords, unlock new forces and master the art of war.

A battle is won before it begins.

Ratnik is a medieval auto battler built around preparation, positioning and counterplay. There is no micromanagement once the fighting starts. No last-second spell saves. No hero abilities.

          You build your army.
          You deploy your forces.
          You press start.

And then your strategy either holds — or collapses.

          Tactical Army Composition

Every battle begins in the deployment phase.

You decide how to spend your limited gold, which units to field, and how to position them before the first clash. Each unit has a cost and a deployment cap, forcing meaningful trade-offs instead of simple massing of one type.

          Spearmen for cost-efficient frontline pressure
          Swordsmen for balanced engagements
Crossbows to increase total damage output
Royal Guards to anchor critical positions
Mounted Knights to disrupt formations with trampling charges
Healers to extend your army’s staying power

Ratnik does not rely on hard counters. Instead, success comes from understanding efficiency, synergy, and battlefield roles. Every unit contributes differently to the overall performance of your army.

There are no permanent stat upgrades. Victory comes from building a composition that performs better, not one that simply looks stronger.

          Defeat the Lords

          Progression happens through conquest.

Each region is ruled by a Lord with a distinct army composition and battlefield philosophy. Some rely on disciplined infantry lines. Others overwhelm with cavalry charges or ranged pressure.

Defeating a Lord unlocks new units and deeper strategic possibilities — but the next opponent will demand even more refined tactics.

As the campaign advances, battles scale up in size and complexity, culminating in massive clashes where full compositions collide.

          Large-Scale Medieval Battles

From early 20v20 engagements to 100v100 warfields, Ratnik delivers large battles without micromanagement.

Fights are designed to resolve decisively — but the outcome is determined entirely by your preparation.

          Watch the Plan Unfold

Once the battle begins, you can:

          Adjust battle speed
          Zoom into the frontline
Pull back for a tactical overview

Whether you want to study positioning or simply watch formations collide, the battlefield is yours to observe.
