This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
In this epic and bloody representative of the ''bullet heaven'' genre, the Finnish hero Sotidrokhima must conquer the afterlife by slaying thousands of enemies alongside his fellow fallen warriors - and ultimately confronting the ruler of the Underworld, Son of Tuoni.
In Sotidrokhima II: Against Eternity, the final hero from the Age of Heroes has fallen. Sotidrokhima, a legendary warrior in medieval Finland, was killed by the conquering crusader army of the Swedes, but death does not hold him back. In the bowels of the Underworld, Sotidrokhima reunites with his fellow fallen warriors - Lalli and Istervo - as they prepare to slaughter their way through thousands of dead. In the end, they must confront the ruler of the Underworld - Son of Tuoni - who wishes to put an end to Sotidrokhima's legend in life and death.
Thousands of enemies will oppose you as you battle through a massive open arena - the Finnish Underworld of Tuonela - in this ''bullet heaven'' experience inspired by the likes of Vampire Survivors. Zombies, shades, and different bosses will descend on you as you pummel them with powerful special attacks. Smaller groups of enemies will continue growing, until you have hundreds upon hundreds descending upon you simultaneously.
The game can be played solo, but is meant to be played in Co-Op: you and your co-players will assume the roles of Sotidrokhima and his fallen friends Lalli and Istervo. Kill enemies to gain experience and level up; have your stats improve and unlock powerful special attacks; and move closer and closer towards the ultimate goal of slaying Son of Tuoni.
This game will provide the definitive ending to Sotidrokhima's saga, told across four games. Meet familiar heroes and enemies, listen to the epic rock and metal-inspired soundtrack with tracks from across the series, and enjoy much more of what the series has never failed to provide: blood and gore!
