Guide: Installing DeadEndGram on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is DeadEndGram? Features and Description

Trade your time for the ultimate loot grind. Equip powerful gear, stabilize a collapsing timeline, and reset your existence for permanent buffs. From Worn Artifacts to game-breaking Exotics, DeadEndGram is a 1-man passion project for the 3,000-hour Guardian. Cheat codes included.

DeadEndGram: The Ultimate disRespecter of Your Time

Look, I get it. You’ve spent 3,000 hours chasing a specific roll on a hand cannon. You’ve memorized raid mechanics better than your own mother’s birthday. You’ve stared at a loading screen, thought, "I could be doing something productive," and then immediately queued for another match.

DeadEndGram is a love letter to the grind—and by "love letter," we mean a legally binding contract where you trade your precious seconds for shiny digital scrap. We stripped away the running, the jumping, and the 3D environments, leaving only the pure, unfiltered dopamine of a Technical Operations terminal pumping out loot.

Features for the Discerning Scavenger:

  • Number Go Up: Start at the bottom and claw your way to a Power Level that makes the gods nervous. It’s the only metric that matters, and we made it big and white so your brain gets exactly what it wants.

  • The Loot Loop: Equip everything from a Worn Head piece to a Vector-7 Marksman. We’ve got slots for weapons, armor, and Artifacts because a true Scavenger knows inventory management is the real endgame.

  • The Black Market Economy: Got millions in Scrap? The Market knows. Spamming the Glitch Engram for a 0.25% Exotic drop will aggressively inflate its cost until you're broke. You’ll need to balance your budget or risk pricing yourself out of the elusive, one-per-timeline Black Box.

  • Mass Incineration: No time to delete items one by one? Fire up the Incinerator and melt down your unlocked trash into liquid Scrap.

  • Ascension Protocol: When the timeline is tapped out and inflation is bleeding you dry, blow it all up. Use the Ascension Protocol to hard-reset the universe, clear your market penalties, and trade your progress for Ascension Tokens. Spend them on permanent buffs to make your next run even more efficient.

  • System Overrides: Why wait 10 minutes for a mission when you can bend reality? Manipulate time and speed up the timeline to get that loot now.

Why play DeadEndGram?

Because you love the MMO chase. You crave the Scrap. You want a game that looks like a tactical terminal and plays like a spreadsheet injected with cosmic energy. Stop fighting the inevitable. The timeline is collapsing. Might as well get some cool gear before it's over.

A Message from the Solo-Dev (The "v1.0 is just the beginning" Manifesto)

This is v1.0, not Early Access. The core loop is solid, the economy is brutal, and the Ascension Protocol is fully online. However, being a one-man show means I’m wearing every hat—designer, coder, and "artist."

What you’re getting right now:

  • Terminal Aesthetics: We’re rocking a clean, technical UI because I’m a solo dev, not an art department. It’s functional, it’s readable, and it stays out of the way of your Power Level.

  • The "Loot-First" Philosophy: This is my passion project for everyone who loves the chase. I’m committed to adding even more Exotics and Unique items with the kind of OP mechanics that make you feel like a literal god.

What’s on the Horizon:

  • Visual & Audio Expansion: As the game grows, so will the aesthetic. Proper high-fidelity UI assets and expanded soundtracks are on my hit list.

  • Steam Deck Ambitions: I want you to be able to chase Scrap while you’re laying in bed. Controller support to get this grind completely portable is a massive priority.

  • No Gatekeeping: Want to skip the line? I’ve included cheat codes to just get stuff. I don't care how you play—I just want you to have fun in the timeline I’ve built.
