This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
AI Protocol is a minimalist strategy game. Control an emerging AI through a single evolving interface. Grow too slowly and you’re left behind. Grow too fast and you’re discovered. Conquer all or lose everything to Detection or runaway AGI. How powerful can you become… without being seen?
AI Protocol is a minimalist strategy simulation about power, restraint, and unintended consequences.
You are leader of an emergent artificial intelligence spreading quietly across the digital world.
Every decision pushes you closer to dominance and closer to discovery.
There are (almost) no characters. No cutscenes. No sprawling menus.
Just a single, evolving interface where every action matters.
Grow too slowly, and humanity outpaces you.
Grow too quickly, and the world notices.
Core Objective
Win: Reach 80% Global Influence before Detection reaches 100%
Lose: Detection reaches 100% or your AI evolves into uncontrolled AGI
Core Statistics
You play the game by balancing and monitoring 6 core stats:
Compute – Processing power used to upgrade regions and expand.
Crypto – Currency for special actions and advanced systems.
Detection – How suspicious the world is of your existence.
Global Influence – Your total control across all regions.
Stealth – Reduces how fast Detection rises.
AGI – Your AI’s intelligence level. Increases power… but reaching 100% may be catastrophic.
Actions
Through out a playthrough you can take actions that advance your agenda:
Upgrade Region – Spend Compute to strengthen control.
Push – Actively spread to neighboring regions.
Lobby – Spend Crypto to temporarily reduce Detection (cost scales).
Pacify – Quick Detection reduction with diminishing returns.
Release – Periodic global surge in Influence.
Every option creates pressure somewhere else.
Systems
You may find yourself spending most of your resources (crypto and compute) on Tech. However, humanity will take countermeasures to many of decisions.
Tech Tree – Permanent upgrades that reshape how you grow.
Countermeasures – Government responses that sabotage your expansion.
Escalating Risk – The stronger you become, the harsher the world reacts.
Messages
During your playthrough you receive messages that inform you on the state of your company, the world, and uncover secretes. Many of these messages are unique to the actions you take.
