Guide: Installing SELF MADE: Investment Life Sim on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is SELF MADE: Investment Life Sim? Features and Description

Build your empire from a basement. Trade stocks, run companies, date, raise kids, dodge the SEC, and retire a legend — or go broke trying.

Start with nothing. End with everything — or nothing again.

Pick your character and the journey will begin at 18 with a single, defining choice: Academic pursuit or the immediate grind? Build your legacy from the ground up as you navigate the complexities of adulthood.

Will you build a family empire where your children become your most trusted executives? Or will your parenting choices limit their potential? In this life sim, the "right upbringing" is the difference between an Ivy League CEO and a missed opportunity.

Self Made is a deep financial life simulation where every month is a decision. Buy low, sell high, start a business, get married, raise kids, go to prison — the American Dream has never been this volatile.

TRADE THE MARKET

Over 50 stocks across Tech, Healthcare, Finance, Energy, Retail, and more — each with real financial fundamentals. PE ratios, dividend yields, earnings per share — this isn't a clicker game. Study the market, read the news, and make your move.

  • Follow sector trends and react to breaking news

  • Track earnings calendars and trade the gap

  • Ride bull markets and survive the crashes

  • Unlock insider tips from shady business contacts (just don't get caught)

YOLO MODE

Not patient enough for buy-and-hold? Enter YOLO mode — a week-long options trading minigame powered by real Black-Scholes pricing. Trade calls and puts, build multi-leg strategies, and watch your portfolio swing in real time. Earn achievements like Diamond Hands, get inducted into the Hall of Fame, and pray your earnings bet pays off.

BUILD YOUR EMPIRE

Trading is just the beginning. Use your profits to build something bigger:

  • Start a Company — Design products, hire employees, manage R&D, and take your startup public with an IPO

  • Own a Sports Franchise — Manage the New York "Gents", sign players, upgrade the stadium, and fill seats

  • Launch a Rocket Company — Fund R&D, complete missions, secure government contracts, and push the frontier of space

  • Run a Media Empire — Generate headlines, control the narrative, and build an audience (But don't get caught manipulating stock prices with bogus stories!)

  • Found a Charity — Solve global problems in education, healthcare, climate, or poverty

LIVE YOUR LIFE

This isn't just a trading sim. It's a life sim.

  • Date — Eleven unique love interests. Take them on dates, fall in love, get married, or get your heart broken

  • Raise a Family — Have kids, name them, and choose between community college and the Ivy League

  • Climb the Career Ladder — Work fast food, grind through an office job, earn your MBA, or become an executive

  • Buy the Lifestyle — Upgrade from a basement to a penthouse. Buy sports cars, private jets, and yachts.

FACE THE CONSEQUENCES

Every decision has weight. Get too greedy and the SEC comes knocking.

  • Insider trading investigations with evidence gathering and courtroom trials

  • Hire lawyers ranging from a public defender to a multi-person defense team

  • Serve time in Club Fed (Fancy Prison) — or worse

  • Market crashes can wipe out years of progress in a single turn

  • Bankruptcy is always one bad bet away

FEATURES

  • 50+ tradable stocks with real financial fundamentals

  • Options trading with authentic Black-Scholes pricing

  • 5 unique businesses to build from scratch

  • 11 romanceable characters with distinct personalities

HOW WILL YOUR STORY END?

Retire at 65 with billions in the bank and a family that loves you. Or flame out at 40 with an SEC record, an ex-wife, and a portfolio of worthless calls.
