This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A tropical survival‑defense hybrid where you are the prey and your crops are the prize. Plant, protect, and survive against persistent wildlife in a hostile world where you cannot fight back.
Stranded on a tropical island, you're at the bottom of the food chain. Predators hunt you, herbivores devour your crops, and you cannot fight back. Plant, build, and outsmart the wildlife to survive in this tactical survival-defense game where your only weapons are your wits and your walls.
You’re stranded at the bottom of a ruthless ecosystem. Predators roam the island, unafraid of you and always hunting for their next meal. Some want you. Others want the crops you depend on. With no weapons and no way to fight back, survival means staying alert, learning their patterns, and using the environment to stay one step ahead.
Your crops are your only lifeline, but they are a beacon for every hungry mouth in the jungle. In this survival-defense loop, building a base isn't about aesthetics ... it’s about security. Construct barriers, place deterrents, and design a perimeter that can withstand persistent attempts by wildlife to steal your food. If your defenses fail, your survival clock starts ticking.
No‑kill survival mechanics — stay alive without combat in a world where everything is stronger than you.
Strategic base building and crop protection — place barriers, reinforce weak points, and defend the food that keeps you alive.
Dynamic wildlife AI — predators and scavengers react to your presence, your crops, and each other.
Risk–reward harvesting decisions — pick crops early to survive today or wait for ripe harvests to secure tomorrow.
While a rescue ship may eventually pass these shores, the true test begins in Endless Mode. Designed for players who want to push their defensive strategies to the absolute limit, this mode removes the safety net. Expand your base, optimize your harvests, and see how long you can survive against an island that never stops growing more dangerous.
