Guide: Installing Mystery Company on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Mystery Company? Features and Description

Unmask villains across Crescentland in this detective idle game. Build your agency, upgrade your van, run food franchises, excavate underground riches, and uncover the conspiracy behind NEXUS Industries. Gather clues. Expose the truth. Mystery never sleeps.

Mystery Company

Crescentland is under siege. Across farms, harbors, and forgotten towns, supernatural creatures are terrorizing innocent people.

The Harvest Phantom stalks empty fields. Ghost pirates haunt foggy ports. A massive Leviathan lurks beneath coastal waters.

But nothing is as it seems.

You are Ace, a former detective with a food stand, an old van, and a stubborn refusal to believe in monsters. When an anonymous tip points to NEXUS Industries, a shadowy corporation buying up terrified communities at rock-bottom prices, you begin an investigation that will span an entire nation.

Every phantom has a face. Every monster has a motive. And someone called "The Architect" is pulling all the strings.

Investigate Mysteries

Travel across 24 distinct zones, from quiet farming villages to industrial port cities. Each location harbors its own mystery waiting to be solved. Gather clues, collect evidence, and unmask the villain behind every haunting.

Mysteries scale in difficulty as you solve them. Return to completed zones for greater challenges and better rewards. The deeper you dig, the more you uncover about the conspiracy threatening Crescentland.

Build Your Agency

What begins as a one-person operation grows into a full detective agency. Recruit former allies who share your mission:

  • Jo Blackwood - Your old partner, a tech specialist whose systems were hacked by NEXUS

  • Max Torres - A mechanic whose garage stands in the way of corporate expansion

  • Luna - A specialist with her own reasons to see NEXUS exposed

Assign your team to automate operations while you focus on investigations. Each member levels up, unlocking cost reductions and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

Upgrade Everything

The Garage

Your van is your lifeline. Upgrade its engine, fuel capacity, storage, and special components. Unlock maintenance systems, turbo boosters, and warp drives for instant travel. Collect gears passively or through exploration. Reach higher van tiers to access distant zones.

ClueWorks Laboratory

Research new technologies to enhance every aspect of your operation. Unlock automation features, boost resource generation, improve excavation robots, and gain powerful quality-of-life upgrades. Over 50 research projects await completion.

The Shelter

Construct and upgrade your headquarters. Place specialized rooms on an expandable grid, creating synergies between adjacent facilities. Defensive structures protect against villain counter-attacks. Every room serves a purpose in your growing empire.

Run a Fast Food Empire

Investigations cost money. Your solution: a fast food franchise network.

Purchase locations across Crescentland. Upgrade them through ten tiers, from roadside stands to flagship restaurants. Manage customer satisfaction by balancing menu complexity with demand. Produce snacks used to fuel team operations.

Your franchises generate income while you sleep. Expand your network to increase production, unlock new recipes, and dominate the food industry of every zone you liberate.

Excavate the Underground

Beneath the surface lies a network of biomes rich with resources. Navigate grid-based excavation zones, digging through tiles to uncover coins, crystals, rare items, and treasure chests.

Nine distinct underground environments await, each with unique themes, challenges, and rewards. Deploy an excavation robot to continue mining while away. Upgrade its fuel efficiency, durability, and pathfinding capabilities. Build combo chains for bonus tile reveals.

Idle Progression

Mystery Company respects your time. Systems continue operating whether you are actively playing or away:

  • Franchises accumulate coins and snacks

  • The garage collects gears passively

  • Underground robots excavate automatically

  • Energy and fuel regenerate over time

  • Team members execute scheduled tasks

  • Offline rewards await your return

Research idle operations technology to maximize gains while away. Extended absence generates resources based on your progress, player level, and current zone.

Uncover the Conspiracy

NEXUS Industries is not just buying property. They are building something. Underground tunnel networks connect their acquisitions.

Shell companies obscure their true reach. Military-grade technology surfaces in unlikely places.

Every zone solved reveals another piece of the puzzle. Every villain unmasked provides evidence against the corporation. The truth about The Architect and their ultimate plan unfolds across hundreds of mysteries spanning Crescentland.
