This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Defenders of the Neighborhood is an arcade game with three mini-games, each following a hero committed to a just cause. From defending a children's shelter to protecting the environment and fighting for public spaces, each hero faces powerful enemies in unique settings.
CRUZ NEGRA — Defender of childhood and justice
In this hard-hitting beat ’em up, Cruz Negra is a fearless boxer who must protect a children’s soup kitchen from attacks by drug traffickers and corrupt police officers. Throw punches to protect the kids of the neighborhood! This is pure hand-to-hand combat, all set in a single scenario where you’ll have to withstand wave after wave of enemies.
EL INFERNAL — Defender of the environment and national sovereignty
This industrial engineer suffered an accident and, instead of giving up, turned his body into a war machine. With El Infernal, you’ll take to the skies in a powerful vertical shmup. Shoot down foreign military forces trying to steal an Argentine ecological reserve and destroy the environment, while fiercely defending your country’s soil.
ROLLER QUEEN — Defender of culture and public space
Put on your skates and get ready to go full speed in this infinite runner. Roller Queen is a circus performer who will do everything she can to stop vile businessmen from destroying a public square to build high-rises. With her torch, she’ll set fire to anyone in her way while dodging all kinds of obstacles and fighting for the neighborhood!
Three heroes, three stories, three play styles: From bare-knuckle brawling to the most frantic infinite-runner action, each hero has their own world to conquer.
Non-stop action: Fights, gunfire, and speed. You won’t stop for a second!
Just causes: Fight corruption, environmental destruction, and corporate greed. A game with a message, where defending what’s yours matters more than ever.
Retro arcade style: Feel the ’80s vibe, with modern visuals that will pull you in!
