This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A physics-based action roguelike where every swing, shot, and mistake is driven by real momentum. Master web-slinging movement, chaotic combat, and unforgiving physics in a game that’s easy to start — and brutally hard to master.
Swing. Shoot. Fail. Upgrade. Try again.
Spider Monkey is a physics-based action roguelike where every movement is real, every mistake matters, and every run plays differently.
You control a gun-wielding monkey with fully physics-simulated arms, web-slinging momentum, and a constantly evolving set of upgrades that radically change how the game feels from run to run.
No canned animations.
No hidden assists.
Just you, the chaos… and physics.
The base game includes 5 worlds and 50 handcrafted stages, each pushing the formula further with tougher enemy pressure, new physics-driven hazards, bigger setpieces, and boss fights that demand cleaner movement and better loadout control. In Adventure mode, you clear stages one at a time and chase medal goals. In Rogue mode, you commit to a full world run in a single attempt with no menu breaks between stages.
Collect bananas, expand your loadout, unlock more weapons and customization options, and keep refining your runs as the campaign escalates. We're also looking forward to your feedback and feature requests as we shape future updates.
- Master dual-web movement with independent left and right web shots, reeling, momentum building, and mid-run recoveries.
- Clear 50 handcrafted stages across 5 escalating worlds packed with shifting physics, hazards, enemy encounters, and boss fights.
- Take on Adventure mode for stage-by-stage clears and medal goals that reward cleaner, faster runs.
- Survive Rogue world runs that make you clear an entire world in one attempt from start to finish.
- Build out your playstyle with unlockable weapons, combat loadouts, bananas, shop progression, and customization options.
- Push for extra mastery with speedrun options, AI race support, and Steam achievements.
