Guide: Installing Jingjie: Signals on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Jingjie: Signals? Features and Description

Jingjie: Reject grinding. Embrace chaos. Victory isn't won by memorizing formulas, but by scripting robust laws to tame the probability cloud. Here, you write the rules of nature. From simple logic, complex life emerges. Observe. Experiment. Evolve.

About This Game

Jingjie: Signals is a sandbox focused on emergence and artificial life.
There are no scripted events and no predefined outcomes—everything you see arises naturally from rules, interactions, and probability.

🧬 Living Particles with DNA

Each particle carries its own genetic parameters that determine how it moves, interacts, and evolves.
Attraction, repulsion, transformation, inheritance—when particles meet, a living micro-world begins to unfold.

🌊 True Emergence

No cutscenes. No hidden scripts.
Colonies form, structures stabilize, and species rise or fall purely through systemic interactions.

✏️ Write the Laws of Nature

With a powerful rule editor, you can:

  • Define forces of attraction and repulsion

  • Create systems of competition, symbiosis, or predation

  • Change a single parameter and trigger a cascading butterfly effect

Each adjustment creates a new world.

🎨 Visual Meditation Mode

Slow down time and simply observe.
Watch particle trajectories, structures forming and dissolving, and experience a calming, hypnotic flow of light and motion.

🔬 Membrane & Higher-Order Structures

From chaos to order.
Particles spontaneously form stable membrane-like structures, giving rise to higher levels of organization over time.

🌿 Ecosystem Simulation

Build complete ecosystems:

  • Producers

  • Consumers

  • Apex predators

Genes interact through XOR-based rules, producing authentic inheritance and mutation across generations.

🎵 Audio-Driven Visuals

Import your own music and watch particles react to sound.
Frequencies and beats directly influence system behavior, creating unique audiovisual evolution patterns.

🌍 A Framework for Emergent Experiments

Jingjie: Signals is not just a game—it is a foundation for exploring emergence, complexity, and artificial life.
Future expansions will build upon this core simulation engine.

Perfect For

  • 🧘 Relaxation — Hypnotic particle motion and flow

  • 🔬 Curiosity — Explore emergence and complex systems

  • 🎨 Creativity — Design your own living worlds

  • 📚 Learning — See how simple rules create complexity
