This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Play as heroic Beans in a fight to save Beanopolis from an evil invasion. Team up solo or in up to 4-player co-op, battle through 4 biomes with day & night cycles, and protect your home planet and your race.
Welcome to Beanopolis — a peaceful planet once filled with happy Beans, family gatherings, and absolutely no explosions.
That didn’t last.
An army of Bad Beans has launched a full-scale invasion, and now it’s up to the Good Beans to fight back. You may be small. You may be shaped like a capsule. But you are heavily armed, dangerously brave, and slightly unhinged.
Jump into chaotic, action-packed battles where teamwork is the difference between victory… and becoming mashed bean paste. Shoot, survive, and fight your way through waves of enemy Beans who are determined to take over the planet and everything on it.
Go in alone if you’re feeling heroic, or team up with up to 4 players in co-op mode. Coordinate attacks, cover each other, revive fallen teammates, and laugh as everything inevitably goes wrong.
Fight across four distinct biomes, each with its own look, mood, and challenges. From peaceful landscapes turned warzones to dangerous environments crawling with Bad Beans, every area pushes you to adapt and survive.
The planet doesn’t stop spinning just because there’s a war on. Experience dynamic day and night cycles that change visibility, atmosphere, and the feeling of every battle. Things get darker, scarier, and way more intense after sunset.
Beanopolis isn’t just a battlefield—it’s home. Thousands of Beans live here, with families, history, and a future worth protecting. Every fight is for the survival of your race and the planet you call home.
Easy to pick up, but full of intense action, teamwork, and chaos. Whether you’re blasting enemies, holding the line with friends, or barely surviving another wave, every mission is packed with adrenaline and humor.
The Bad Beans want your planet.
You want them gone.
Suit up, grab your weapons, and fight back.
Save your race. Save Beanopolis. 🫘💣
