Guide: Installing Void Hunters on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Void Hunters? Features and Description

Twin-stick space combat roguelite with 12 abilities, 5 reality-warping ultimates, and 20+ enemy factions that each fight differently. Permanent upgrades that stack across hundreds of hours. Quick missions, deep progression, zero runs wasted.

Space Combat Roguelite. Infinite Missions. Permanent Power.

Void Hunters drops you into a twin-stick space combat roguelite where every mission is procedurally generated, every kill makes you permanently stronger, 20+ alien factions, and more than 100 ships with unique mechanics to keep you guessing. Chain devastating abilities, build unstoppable weapon synergies, and unleash reality-warping ultimate powers across missions that never play the same way twice. Quick 5-20 minute sessions. Dozens (maybe hundreds) of hours of progression. Zero runs wasted.

12 Abilities. 5 Ultimates. Total Destruction.

Void Hunters gives you an arsenal that grows with every wave. Twelve unique abilities unlock as you push deeper—from Bull's invincible charge that rams through entire formations, to Vortex pulling dozens of enemies into a killing zone, to Cascade's chain-reaction explosions that turn one kill into six. Assign any five to your loadout and build combos that shred everything on screen.

          - Bull: Go invincible and ram through enemies

          - Vortex: Pull enemies into a crushing gravity well

          - EMP: Strip every shield on screen instantly

          - Phase: Blink-teleport through danger with i-frames

          - Siphon: Drain the life force from surrounding enemies to heal yourself

          - Cascade: Trigger chain-reaction void explosions across six targets

          - Echo: Mark your position, scout ahead, then snap back through time

          - Nova: Blast a blinding shockwave that damages and disorients everything nearby

          - Shatter: Crystallize and detonate an area, leaving enemies taking 50% extra damage

          - Reave: Launch seeking blades that chain between five enemies

          - Prism: Deploy an explosive holographic decoy

          - Push: Blast enemies away when you need breathing room

Void Surge — Your Reality-Warping Superweapon

Charge your Void Surge meter through kills, combos, grazing enemy fire, and boss damage—then unleash one of five devastating ultimate abilities that rewrite the rules of combat. Cycle between them mid-mission to match any threat.

          - Orbital Strike: Call down a massive bombardment dealing 50% of every enemy's max HP in a huge radius

          - Void Storm: Summon a growing maelstrom that gets stronger with every kill—swarm-killer supreme

          - Time Fracture: Freeze time, deal massive damage, then shatter frozen enemies for bonus destruction

          - Singularity: Create a black hole that crushes everything inward before detonating

          - Phoenix Burst: Become invincible and fire in all 16 directions simultaneously—can even resurrect you from death

And when you need precision over power, toggle Chrono Rift to slow time to 30% while you move at near-full speed. Thread through bullet hell. Land impossible shots. Control the flow of battle itself.

20+ Enemy Factions That Fight Differently

Every faction in Void Hunters has mechanics that force you to adapt. Hivemind ships split into smaller copies when damaged—kill them fast or face exponential swarms. Magnetic enemies deflect your projectiles back at you. Symbiotic pairs share damage, and killing one enrages the survivor. Berserkers get faster and deadlier as you hurt them. Crystalline ships shatter into lethal shards on death. No single strategy works against everything.

          - Swarm: Overwhelming numbers, fast and relentless

          - Void: Phase through your attacks with unpredictable movement

          - Ancients: Massive health pools that endure sustained fire

          - Phantom: Flicker in and out of visibility

          - Inferno: Leave fire trails and explode on death

          - Spectral: Untargetable while attacking—strike when they're idle

          - Neural: Learn and adapt to your playstyle

          - Overcharge: Absorb damage until they explode in chain lightning

          - Nano: Rebuild themselves if you don't finish them off

          - Mimic: Copy your own weapons and use them against you

Seven enemy tiers from expendable Fodder to terrifying Legendary threats with 1500 HP and 2.5x damage. Plus a Nemesis System—enemies born from your deaths return as unique, personal threats in future runs.

          Progression That Never Stops

Two progression systems feed each other. In-mission, you level up to 100+ gaining damage, health, shields, speed, and crit bonuses every level. Collect orbiting Satellites—up to six passive modifiers giving you bonus damage, armor, attack speed, extra projectiles, XP, and energy cores. Grab temporary power-ups and consumable items from the Hangar Store for that extra edge.

Between missions, spend Energy Cores on 25+ permanent upgrades with 50 levels each. Triple your weapon damage. Max your fire rate. Add extra projectiles to every shot. Push your critical hit chance to 55% with 3.5x multipliers. Start missions at level 51 with Phase Experience. Every single run makes your next run stronger—nothing is ever wasted.

          - Offense: Weapon Power, Rapid Fire, Critical Systems, Critical Strike, Multi-Barrel, Seeker Launcher

          - Defense: Hull Plating, Shield Capacitor, Shield Regenerator, Reactive Armor

          - Utility: Engine Boost, Neural Link, Energy Siphon, Boost Cells, Phase Experience, Satellite Protection

          - Abilities: Cooldown reduction and duration extension for every ability

          Key Features

          - Roguelite Sessions: 5-10 minute missions with permanent progression that stacks across hundreds of hours

          - 12 Combat Abilities: Unlocked progressively, assigned to 5 active slots, each with upgrade paths

          - 5 Void Surge Ultimates: Reality-warping superweapons charged through skilled play

          - Chrono Rift: Toggle bullet-time to slow the world while you move at near-full speed

          - 20+ Enemy Factions: Each with unique combat mechanics that demand adaptation

          - 7 Enemy Tiers: From Fodder cannon-fire to screen-shaking Legendary threats

          - Nemesis System: Your deaths spawn personal rival enemies that hunt you in future runs

          - Satellite System: Six orbiting passive modifiers with risk/reward—take damage and you might lose them

          - 25+ Permanent Upgrades: 50 levels each with multiplicative stacking

          - Procedural Missions: Multi-phase objectives—destroy, defend, escort, hack, survive, and more

          - Combo System: Kill streaks multiply your score and charge your ultimate faster

          - Hangar Store: Consumable items crafted from mission materials for tactical advantages

          - Status Effects: Burn, shock, slow, and corrosion add tactical depth to every encounter

          - Built for Performance: Hundreds of enemies, projectiles, and particles on screen at 300+ FPS

One More Mission. Then One More.

You're two kills from leveling up. You just found a satellite that adds +2 projectiles to every shot. Your nemesis is waiting in the next mission. That boss wiped you at 1% HP and revenge is non-negotiable. The Hangar upgrade you've been saving for is one run away.

Every mission ends with a reason to launch the next one. Welcome to Void Hunters.
