This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A single-developer independent game combining philosophy, institutional simulation, and minimal interaction to explore an experimental world defined by civilizational evolution and the consequences of choice.
Game Title: Civilization Directive
Game Overview
Welcome to Civilization Directive, a science-fiction game shaped by philosophy, strategy, and social simulation. Here, you will delve into the limits of human consciousness and the evolution of civilization, standing before the collapse and rebirth of entire worlds. You do not fight on battlefields—you serve as a Consciousness Arbiter, a navigator of fate, evaluating the worth of each life and the consequences of every choice.
On the outer rim of the galaxy, a cluster of world-class civilizations once operated within a hazardous vortex of politics and technology. You will take part in a long-term experiment on “consciousness evolution”—the Civilization Descent Protocol, designed to redefine the boundaries between individual and collective awareness. From the perspective of a decision-maker, you will judge the destiny of the universe, confronting both the suppression of thought and the struggle for free will.
Game Features:
Philosophical and Cognitive Simulation: Explore profound debates on morality, belief, power, and freedom—every choice emerges from a civilization built upon contradiction and complexity.
Deep Decision System: Each decision shapes not only the narrative but the fate of entire civilizations. Can you uncover the limits of morality and logic? Are you prepared to face the consequences of your choices?
Interstellar Strategy and Exploration: Beyond individual destinies, you will confront multiple factions—DRAZTHAR, AWAKENERS, ZYRA-NUL—and decide which civilizations deserve rebirth and which will vanish completely.
Layered Storylines and Complex Relationships: Every character carries their own motives and beliefs. Their destinies lie in your hands. Will you alter their course—or allow them to yield to fate?
Background Story:
As the Galactic River enters an age of peace, the Interstellar Civilization Alliance enacts the Expansion Species Restriction Act to preserve order and stability. Its purpose is to counter external cognitive waves—cosmic-scale consciousness runaway risk factors. You will join this initiative, guiding the future of civilizations by deciding which people and which ideas may endure, and which must be suppressed.
Gameplay
Cosmic-Scale Decisions: Every decision influences the game’s progression while probing philosophical questions of morality and free will.
Strategic Simulation: Manage interstellar governance and social structures at a high level, guiding civilizations through transformation and evolution.
Characters and Factions: Interact with individuals from diverse civilizations; their values and beliefs will shape your decisions and the fates you determine for them.
Multiple Endings: Your choices and actions unlock entirely different destinies for the universe.
A coming conflict of ideas awaits your intervention.
In Civilization Directive, you are the force that reshapes the universe. Can you carry this burden?
