This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Setting, Main Objective, and Victory Conditions
Welcome to the cold tiled toilet floor! You control a determined turd, battling another turd. Your goal in this game is speed and tactical superiority. To win a round, you must fill your storage with resources before your opponent. The winner is the first to deliver exactly 10 items to their base.
Character Controls
The game features an automatic movement system. Your turd slides forward on the tile automatically and continuously. Your task is to timely set the correct direction by pressing the arrow keys on your keyboard to maneuver through the maze.
Unique Game World
You won't be able to memorize the map. Each new game is generated from scratch: the location of bases, the types of collectibles, and the configuration of obstacles are always unique. You will have to instantly navigate a new environment every time you start a game.
Dynamic Environment
The game's difficulty increases as you progress. The board reacts to your actions: as soon as any player picks up an item from the floor, a new obstacle instantly appears in a random location on the map. By the end of the round, your room to maneuver narrows significantly, requiring pinpoint precision.
Penalty System and Risks
The game is unforgiving. Any contact with an obstacle (a cactus) or a trap left by an opponent results in a double penalty:
You lose one health point.
One item already acquired is immediately removed from your storage.
One wrong move can set you back and cost you the victory.
Interception and Steal Mechanics
If you see an opponent carrying an item back to their base, this is your chance. Play cleverly: time your trajectory and get behind them. If you catch them at this moment, you can snatch the item right out of their hands and claim it for yourself. Furthermore, resources in the storage area are not safe: you can drive directly into the enemy base and steal an item they've already delivered.
Combat Arsenal and Bonuses
Special boosters regularly appear on the field, capable of dramatically changing the course of a match. Knowing their properties is essential for victory:
Bombardier – a formidable area control weapon. After picking up this bonus, your character begins to leave a trail of explosive traps (poop mines). When a mine detonates, a powerful explosion occurs, causing an earthquake effect: the screen begins to shake, disorienting the opponent and preventing them from controlling their character.
Sabotage – a means of economic attack. This bonus allows you to instantly destroy some of the items already accumulated in the enemy's storage area.
Snowflake – completely blocks the enemy. The opponent turns into ice and is unable to move, while you freely collect resources.
Ally – summons reinforcements. A computer-controlled assistant appears on the field, which will autonomously carry items to your base for a certain period of time. Beetle – Provides a sharp increase in gliding speed, allowing you to deliver cargo faster.
Medkit – Restores lost health (only works if your health bar is low).
Success depends on how well you combine resource gathering, avoiding constantly appearing obstacles, and timely looting of enemy supplies.
