Guide: Installing GAL VS VILLAGE on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

GAL VS VILLAGE

STORY

///////////////

On 23rd month, Year 2XXX of the Unified Calendar, signs of otherworldly transformation were confirmed in Haiseta Village.

A claim of responsibility was confirmed from the Kurobachi family — the village guardians — and from villagers themselves.

The only message sent was a single line: “Know us.”

Togawa-no-Fuchi Prefectural authorities announced an immediate response.

Transcendent Entity Management Bureau — Special Unit No. 444:
Kessenji “Blood-sucker” Yui is to be dispatched at once to contain the situation.

memo
The villagers who have already become monstrous cannot be saved, nor can this village, which has become an otherworld.
Even though our homeland contains countless otherworlds, the manifestation of even a single one upsets the nationwide balance of deities and gods, and people’s lives — their everyday existence — will be invaded.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

What's this?

///////////////

GAL VS VILLAGE is an old-school FPS where you storm Haiseta Village — now wrapped in strange phenomena — armed with kitchen knives and firearms.
You play as Kessenji “Blood-sucker” Yui, infiltrate the village, and must neutralize the villagers who have turned into horrors and the people of the Kurobachi family who are plotting something, bringing the crisis to an end.

Monstrous villagers, ancient kamis that manifest, and various shikigami invoked by rituals —
you will face a wide range of hostile entities.

But you are the strongest gal.

You cannot lose.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

FUTURE

///////////////

Kessenji “Blood-sucker” Yui has undergone special ritual consecration over her entire body, and her form has adapted to the otherworld — she is the secret weapon of the special unit.
Therefore, you can move at high speed with the SHIFT key, hold left-click to fire firearms one-handed, and use right-click to swing a meat cleaver.

For players unfamiliar with FPS games, this title includes a “You Won’t Get Lost (Probably)” guide feature and an ultra-forgiving lowest difficulty where you almost never die.

Rest easy!

SONGS!!!

///////////////

The previous work, “CULT VS GAL” featured the industry’s first multi-ending system, and of course this title also allows you to choose multiple endings.

For the ending songs — which are quite decadent and mature — I commissioned arrangement, recording, and mixing from Takayuki Katō (active as “kikato” in the band “Iroiro na Juujika”). Composition and lyrics are by the author.

The title track will of course play as well.
It’s called “Konjo Eternal.” Lyrics and composition by the author.
