This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A retro arcade bubble-shooter where shots split bouncing bubbles until they vanish. Clear 40 handcrafted levels before the timer runs out or push your limits in Survival.
Remember that cozy, retro arcade thrill of dodging, timing, and popping bubbles just in the nick of time? Bubble Hook Mania brings that feeling back with a modern, polished twist. It’s a bubble shooter that prizes skill-based play, sharp reflexes, and smart positioning—wrapped in a warm, nostalgic vibe.
A Classic Feel with Modern Flow
The heart of Bubble Hook Mania is a tight, classic action loop: move, aim, pop, and survive. The hook mechanic gives you precise control—thread shots between bouncing hazards, set up safe pockets, and chain clears that feel incredibly satisfying.
40 Hand-Crafted Levels
Push through 40 challenging levels in Level Mode, each tuned to teach, test, and reward. The progression is gentle at first, then ramps up with trickier arcs, tighter spaces, and clever layouts that push your reaction time and strategy.
Survival Mode: Just You and the Bubbles
Prefer pure pressure? Survival mode strips it down to fundamentals. No level endpoint—just waves, endless escalation, and your determination to set a new personal best. It’s the perfect mode for practice, warming up your aim and movement, and climbing the replayability ladder as you learn advanced dodges and clutch clears.
Power-Ups That Reward Good Play
As bubbles pop, they can drop four distinct power-ups that change the tempo and open creative strategies:
Shield: A brief safety net for aggressive plays and tight squeezes.
Freeze (Stop Bubbles): Pause the chaos, line up perfect shots, and dismantle tricky clusters.
Triple Shot (Shotgun-style burst): Fan out your attack, split multiple targets, and clean space fast.
Shuriken: A sharp, direct option to finish small stragglers or carve breathing room.
You can also purchase these items in the shop using gold and gems earned through play. Use them to learn routes, rescue near-miss runs, or chase ambitious personal records. They’re not a substitute for skill—they’re tools that reward your game sense.
Quests, Daily Rewards, and Meaningful Progress
Daily login? Get rewarded. Tackle quests? Earn more gold and gems. The daily rewards system and task board keep your purse stocked with gold and gems, making each session feel productive. This isn’t grind for grind’s sake; it’s a steady, feel-good loop that complements the core arcade action.
Designed for Feel
Bubble Hook Mania focuses on that crisp moment-to-moment feel: clean hit feedback, readable trajectories, and a forgiving yet demanding difficulty curve. The presentation leans into a retro-inspired warmth while staying modern and polished, with clear silhouettes, intuitive reactions, and a soundtrack that nudges your rhythm forward. It’s family-friendly, easy to learn, and rewarding to master—perfect for short breaks or marathon pop-sessions.
Play Your Way
Whether you’re practicing routes, testing new power-up timings, or racing your own personal best, Bubble Hook Mania respects your style. Make bold plays behind a Shield, freeze the field to plot a perfect sequence, or burst through chaos with a Triple Shot. The more you play, the more the screen stops being random and starts feeling like a playground you control.
Bubble Hook Mania is a love letter to classic arcade design—simple to understand, endlessly deep to master. Step in, take a breath, and listen for that satisfying pop as the last bubble disappears. Then do it again, a little faster, a little cleaner, a little braver. Your next best score is only one perfect run away.
