This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Can you escape ? Will you be able to get out of each room ? Minimalist turn-based logic game : Move from square to square to clear your way to the exit. Moving around will also disturb the creatures that will try to catch you...
The protagonist wakes up lost, all he knows is that he must escape... But from what ?
"Within the Mind" is a minimalist turn-based logic game : Move from square to square to navigate the room and find a path to the exit. Moving around will also attract creatures that will try to catch you...
Loosen them behind walls, open and close doors, and discover several other mechanics...
The creatures movements follow a predefined logic that allows you to anticipate their movements and allow each level to be solved.
A lightweight and easy-to-use game for casual or long sessions :
Each room can be reset, and each round can be undone to go back at will.
Progress is saved after each completed level.
Can be played with a keyboard, mouse, or a combination of both.
Touchscreen compatible.
Steam Deck compatible.
Levels of all difficulties :
Whether you're a casual player, a hard-to-challenge type, or a complete dislike of the genre, you'll find levels that suit you.
This first chapter gives you access to 111 levels of varying difficulty, with a tutorial.
36 easy levels will introduce you to the basic mechanics of the game and are designed to relax you. Even those less familiar with logic puzzles will be able to complete them.
36 intermediate levels that will challenge you in moderation. As you become more comfortable with the game's mechanics and logic, this difficulty will become easier. Discover new mechanics coming in the final 12 levels.
36 hard levels will give you a hard time, in case the previous difficulties weren't enough to keep you from reaching your goal. You'll need to know the game's mechanics very well to succeed, and perhaps develop your perspective on the game to glimpse the solution. Replay new mechanics to come in the last 8 levels.
3 challenge levels... For the most daring and the craziest. Your mental health could be affected. The increase in difficulty and complexity, compared to the hard levels, is extreme and incomparable to the previous ones. It takes a lot of time to complete just one.
A scenario (challenge) that will encourage you to surpass yourself :
Playing these three most extreme levels also allows you to progress through the storyline, but don't worry : Completing a challenge level isn't a prerequisite to discover the entire storyline.
This game addresses many themes and poses several reflections on life, surpassing oneself, achieving one's personal goals, or even on recurring themes.
A demo to get you started :
