This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Auric Falcon, a lone traveler, and his drone companion, ADAM, are forced to make a detour to Earth in search of a vital energy source for their ship, all while on the run from the Citadella Militia.
The Last Detour is a short but memorable, single-player, story-driven journey through a desolate, post-apocalyptic Earth — specifically, a ruined farm and the secrets hidden beneath it. In this focused, approximately one-hour experience, you will navigate silent areas, examine crumbling structures, and investigate environmental clues to uncover the story. The gameplay emphasizes exploration and observation rather than combat, allowing players to piece together the narrative through their interactions with the environment.
Your goal is clear: Locate the energy source for your spaceship to continue your overarching journey, before the Militia finds you.
Unlike open-world or grind-heavy titles, The Last Detour offers a linear, cinematic adventure. There are no enemies or combat, platforming or rage-inducing challenges — instead, the emphasis is on exploration, atmosphere, and storytelling. Search the environment for clues, uncover hidden connections, and progress at your own pace.
The soundscape primarily consists of natural ambient sounds and environmental effects, with occasional background music enhancing key moments.
Throughout your journey, ADAM, your loyal drone, remains a constant companion. It lights dark areas, scans the environment for hidden details, and communicates through pre-written dialogue, providing both practical assistance and narrative depth.
Switch freely between first- and third-person perspectives to suit your preferred playstyle as you guide Auric Falcon through the ruined landscapes, except during cinematic, pre-scripted sequences where the camera is locked to enhance the storytelling. Explore the environments at your own pace, uncover some optional Easter Eggs, and enjoy a fully self-contained journey in one sitting.
Time-limited sections occur occasionally, adding a subtle sense of urgency and creating moments where Auric Falcon’s mission can end in a deadly failure.
It is only a detour… but one that may define everything that comes after.
No skill point system or character progression — Auric Falcon and ADAM are fully realized characters from the start, with defined personalities and abilities.
Linear journey through handcrafted environments – Travel across silent areas, ruined landscapes, and the remnants of humanity’s recent downfall while uncovering the story.
Drone companion – ADAM supports you throughout the journey, lights the way, scans the environment to reveal hidden details for you at any time, and communicates with you, enhancing immersion.
Cinematic atmosphere – Detailed environments, atmospheric lighting, occasional cutscenes, and minimalistic sound design create a film-like presentation of a ruined, post-war Earth.
First- and third-person gameplay – Switch freely between perspectives. Choose an immersive first-person view or a wider third-person camera as you guide the traveler.
Complete, standalone experience – Approximately one hour of single-player gameplay, no microtransactions, no filler content.
The environment takes full advantage of Nanite virtualized geometry, allowing highly detailed terrain and natural landscapes. From the rugged ground to the dynamic lighting, every scene is designed to create an immersive, cinematic atmosphere.
