Guide: Installing One Strange School Day on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is One Strange School Day? Features and Description

"One Strange School Day" is a psychological horror adventure where each class period twists into a nightmare. Survive seven periods, solve strange anomalies, and uncover the hidden truth behind an endless school day. Will you escape… or repeat forever?

          Overview

“One Strange School Day” is a first-person psychological horror adventure set in an ordinary school that slowly unravels into something deeply unsettling.
What begins as a familiar day in the classroom turns into a descent into mystery, fear, and a truth you were never meant to uncover.

          Key Features

          • A Familiar Place Turned Unfamiliar – Explore classrooms, hallways, and spaces that should feel safe, yet conceal disturbing secrets.

          • Story-Driven Mystery – Piece together hidden documents, subtle clues, and fragmented memories to reveal the dark narrative behind the school.

          • Immersive First-Person Exploration – Experience tension at every step; even the sound of your own footsteps can feel threatening.

          • Puzzles and Critical Choices – Unlock doors, decipher notes, and make decisions that may alter the course of your fate.

          • A Compact but Lasting Experience – Designed for a short, focused play session of 1–2 hours, leaving a haunting impression long after the credits roll.

          About the Game

You arrive at school as if it were any other day. The classroom, the clock on the wall, the faint chatter in the distance—all seems ordinary.
But as the hours pass, something is terribly wrong. The corridors shift into places you don’t recognize. Footsteps echo when no one should be there. Whispers crawl through the silence. And a fifth period that was never on the schedule begins.

What is real, and what is memory? Who else is in this building with you?
As you search for answers, the line between reality and nightmare dissolves. The truth is here—but uncovering it might cost more than you expect.

Can you survive the day that should never have existed?
