This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Make sure to deal with all your customers before night falls, as any remaining will become agitated and offer you reduced rewards, then use your remaining time to clean and set up for the next day. When you're ready, head to bed and get some well deserved sleep, just try not to have any dreams...
Featuring a wide range of crops, allowing you to customise your farm however you want and better tailor your style of play. Want to be constantly on the go, travelling back and forth between handling customers and handling your plants? Then there's plenty of fast-growing plants that will benefit such a playstyle. Or would you rather a more relaxed experience, watching your crops grow and taking in the sun? Then there's also options for you. You can also pick from a variety of fertilisers, each having different benefits to enhance your farming experience, find what you like best!
Customers will regularly visit your farm with specific requests, which you can either accept or reject. Delivering customer orders is the fastest way to make money, but make sure not to take on too many and overburden yourself. You only have so much time in your day, and customers with orders you've accepted will get increasingly agitated the longer they're forced to wait. Keeping your customers happy is important, as satisfied customers will increase your reputation, which will increase the amount of customers you get, and improve their offers.
Your farm isn't just a static background, it is constantly changing with different weather and day events, keeping it from feeling the same across your playthrough. Don't expect these events to just be limited to weather however, there's plenty of dark secrets for you to discover as you try your best to manage your farm.
With up to five unique endings and plenty of secrets to discover, you can playthrough the game multiple times and still have a fresh experience. As well, each ending unlocks game-altering features, allowing you to further customise your experience and aiding you on your journey to 100%.
