Guide: Installing SOLARFLARE on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is SOLARFLARE? Features and Description

SOLARFLARE is a byte-sized roguelike auto-battler in a sci-fi dystopia. Fight (and die) to unlock Upgrades, experiment to find broken builds, and obliterate the megacorp's bots.

SOLARFLARE is a byte-sized roguelike auto-battler set in a sci-fi dystopia. Fight (and probably die a bunch) to unlock Upgrades, experiment to find broken builds, and (eventually) obliterate the megacorp's bots.

Defeat your varied opponents by building a robot army, sniping them from afar, rushing them down and impaling them on your spikes, or using EMP to disrupt their weapons (and also your weapon). Each Upgrade is weak in isolation, but combines explosively with other Upgrades you unlock.

Choose wisely, scale wildly, and destroy your enemies in a riot of violence.

As a new agent of SOLARFLARE, we solemnly promise that you will die. You will be drained by Needlers, excavated by Drillbots, and/or sniped from afar (yes, sorry, they have sniper rifles, too).

Remember to review the combat log to figure out why you died! Alternatively, give up in a huff and try a different build.

In this cold and indifferent galaxy, SOLARFLARE tries to be slightly warmer.

We need the four of you to raid another megacorp, steal their equipment, sabotage their projects, and recruit their indentured employees. Don't worry, they started it.

This is a tiny game, at a tiny price!

I predict you'll have fun figuring out how the systems work, how not to die, and then how to win. You'll turn up the game speed and exult in the slaughter of your enemies for a little while. After you win the first time, it'll be pretty easy to win again. So I suggest turning up the difficulty to see just how good your build is (probably not to 10, that's a very high number). Look for a few other builds that utilize different Upgrades, and see how far you can get with those, too.

When you're finished, if you really don't feel you've gotten your money's worth, you can return it! I promise not to be mad.

On the other hand, if a lot of people like what they see here, I might add more. To make this more probable, let me know! Please deposit all of your hopes and dreams in Community Hub > Discussions.
