Guide: Installing Land Run on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Land Run? Features and Description

An original single-play card game set in the 'LandRun' of the Western Pioneering Era. A fierce psychological battle using cards and luck, the game is turned upside down with just one card.

LandRun is a one-man strategy card game with a motif of the land scramble 'landrun' from the western frontier era.

Players, as black slaves, participate in "Land Run Tournament" because of their owners' greed, and if they win, they will get the freedom they promised and the land they want. This piece is a personalized title developed for PCs, using Unity.

Unlike the typical Trump game, except for five special cards, it is designed so that the impact of number size does not appear significantly. When a player hands one card, his or her horse advances one space in the opponent's direction, and when the horse crosses the opponent's boundary, the attack succeeds. Successful three times in this attack will result in victory in that round. The key strategy is to plan in which order to use the card and move the horse, with items that reverse the opponent's advance, move several spaces at once, or adjust the timing of crossing the boundary line.

In addition, if the boundary breakthrough does not occur three times until the deck is exhausted, the score is calculated by adding the sum of the number of cards left in the hand and the sum of the unused physical strength cards, and the sum is used to determine victory or defeat. As a result, there are two winning plans: a direct attack victory that breaks through the opponent's boundaries three times and finishes quickly, and a score victory that is aimed at managing hand and physical strength while looking at the deck run out. It is up to the player to decide which plan to choose, and it is important to strategically adjust the timing of using the item, the consumption of the physical card, and how much handwriting you will leave. Another feature of the game is that there is still room for a turnaround even in unfavorable situations due to various items.

Matches are played in a tournament format. Players will face several contestants in a row under the direction of their owners, each with a different disposition: "the type who pushes aggressively from the beginning" and "the type who saves items and special cards and then flips them all at once in the second half." The rules are the same, but they are designed to vary depending on who you face, whether you are aiming for an attack victory or a point victory. A round can take approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and the game is designed to allow you to find your own winning pattern by re-attempting several times in a short period of time.

It uses a simple mouse-only interface. The game is played by simply selecting a card, but the weight of the judgment varies depending on how you read the horse's location, the number of cards left, and the remaining physical strength of the card. We aim to design it as intuitive as possible so that even players who are not confident in numerical calculation can strategize with the image of "move forward, step back, push away."

In terms of visuals and world views, in order to give an epic reason to the rule of "why fight each other to move forward first," we tried to superimpose Landrun in real history with the situation of "who runs first and takes the land." The board and UI are motifs of desolate land maps, old gambling tables, and bulletin boards in bars, and we tried to direct the main character to feel like he is getting closer to freedom and the ground whenever the horse advances one by one. It is a game created by black slaves who are forced to fight for their owners, conscious of twisting the contradictions and madness of the Western Pioneering Era and Landrun through the structure that they try to win their freedom in the end within the same rules and tournament.
