This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Lead a monster-run industry ! Recruit, upgrade machines, transform ores, and unlock tech. Get rich by mastering strategy and expanding your industrial empire. Ready to conquer the market ?
Welcome to the head of the most monstrous industry !
You’ve just been promoted to CEO of a rather unusual factory: your workers are monsters, your machines are hungry for ore, and your currency of choice is called Monstercoins. With Elias, your ever-enthusiastic (and sarcastic) right-hand man, you’ll turn a pile of dusty scrap metal into an unshakable industrial empire.
Your mission ? Produce, optimize, and innovate… while surviving the unexpected.
You begin with a handful of underpaid monsters and one squeaky machine. But with a bit of flair (and a lot of Monstercoins), everything can change :
Recruit and train your monsters : each comes with their own strengths, moods, and productivity. It’s up to you to put them in the right role.
Build and upgrade your machines : every upgrade makes the factory rumble and multiplies your profits.
Automate your production chain : watch ores turn into ingots, then finished products—almost without lifting a finger.
Elias is with you from day one: he explains, he grumbles, he jokes… but he’s indispensable. The true memory of the company, he’ll teach you how to survive in this joyful industrial chaos.
Industry is never smooth sailing…
Positive events can boost your production or reveal unique opportunities.
But beware of breakdowns, sabotage, or price spikes that can throw your plans into disarray.
React quickly, adjust your choices, and turn every problem into an opportunity.
Thanks to R&D, your factory is constantly evolving :
Unlock brand-new machines and technologies.
Expand your production floor to host more and more lines.
Discover unique synergies to dominate the market.
Every product, every upgrade, every decision is paid for—and rewarded—with Monstercoins. Hoarding this currency isn’t just about profit: it’s a philosophy. The more your conveyors run, the more your empire sparkles.
Your factory isn’t alone in the void :
Passersby roam the streets, bringing life to your industrial district.
A day/night cycle transforms the atmosphere and lights up the factory in new ways.
Zoom in and you’ll hear machines pounding in immersive 3D audio, even though the game is in 2D.
Even in 2D, your factory sounds like a living world :
The rumble of machines,
The clattering of conveyors,
The sighs of your monster workers…
Everything contributes to the immersion of a unique industrial universe.
A quirky industrial management game where your workers are monsters.
Machines to build, upgrade, and automate.
A system of positive and negative events that shake up your plans.
A complete R&D system to grow and diversify your factory.
A living, immersive world.
And above all… tons of Monstercoins raining down!
