Guide: Installing IdleZomb on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is IdleZomb? Features and Description

IdleZomb: Manage a ruined hospital, create zombies, evolve them, or sacrifice them for DNA. Every decision counts in this post-apocalyptic management game. Early Access focuses on the basics, with content available up to level 20.

IdleZomb — Create. Sacrifice. Evolve.

Welcome to IdleZomb, a management game where the twist is… your NPCs are zombies.
No villagers to protect here you build, optimize, and experiment using the undead.
Sacrificed in the name of progress.

In a ruined world, you take control of an abandoned hospital — the starting point for a potential new species…
One that might be more evolved than the one that destroyed everything.

Start with a single zombie

Every game begins with a single randomly generated zombie.
Its stats will determine its value… and its chances of survival.
Put it to work: harvesting, producing, upgrading…
Or sacrifice it to extract precious strands of DNA.

Rebuild your base

Your hospital is the heart of the system. It's where new zombies are born.
Nearby, a rundown lab houses a strange figure — one who can butcher your zombies to harvest their DNA.
But… are you sure he has good intentions?
That’s a question worth remembering.

Content up to level 20

For now, each zombie can evolve up to level 20.
Each level requires DNA and boosts its stats.
In a future update, reaching level 20 will trigger a major evolution: new sprite, stat multiplier, and a more imposing presence in this arid wasteland.
But for now, that stage isn’t available yet.

A world to rebuild… one chicken at a time

At first, your zombies will only face chickens — harmless and barely nourishing.
With time, they’ll encounter mutant rats tougher foes...
And far worse creatures in future updates.

An Early Access in progress

IdleZomb is under active development.
This early beta is just the first slice of the project.
More content, new creatures, gameplay systems, and building types are planned for the coming months.
Your feedback is essential.

An experimental version

⚠️ This version is not representative of the final game.
Many systems are still in development, sounds are not yet integrated,
and some elements like the tutorial may contain display bugs.
