This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Adapt, strategize, and dominate your rivals in this multiplayer roguelite tower defense brawler. Upgrade towers, wield powerful items, and outlast the madness to become the last Guardian standing!
Flex your strategic muscles with Gotchi Guardians — a chaotic, multiplayer roguelite tower defense game. Face off against seven other players as you build cute, devastating defenses to protect your Guardian from relentless waves of evil Licks. Adapt to unpredictable events, counter your opponents’ strategies, and outlast the madness to become the last Guardian standing!
From stubborn tanks to greedy misfits, every Guardian plays differently—and brings their own twist to the battlefield.
🛡️ Knight – A stalwart defender who punishes attackers by reflecting their damage. Ideal for players who like to stand their ground—and make it hurt.
🍎 Farmer – A cheerful oddball who buffs towers by spraying them with apple juice and distracting enemies with inflatable decoys. It shouldn’t work. It does anyway.
💰 Soldier of Fortune – A slick opportunist who turns gold into power. Earn bonus income by acting fast, soaking damage, or cashing out at just the right moment.
A total of 6 Guardians are available at launch, including the Pirate, the Archer, and the magic Shaaman—each offering a different playstyle for every kind of strategist.
Earn XP as you play and unlock unique talents for each Guardian, letting you grow stronger no matter how you choose to play.
Every match brings a new set of twists through the dynamic event system. Choose which towers to unlock, how many more enemies everyone should face, and what kind of upgrades the enemy Licks will gain—like exploding gas tanks or super sticky giant bullets for Steady Lads. Every decision affects the flow of battle.
Event choices grant rewards like Income, Items, and Upgrade Seeds, which unlock powerful tower evolutions. At the end of every 5-round day, all players must survive the rampage of a powerful Boss Lick!
Climb the seasonal leaderboards by earning Stars and Star Dust through consistent play. Survive longer, place higher, and unlock G-Bucks, cosmetics, and more at season’s end.
The Gotchiverse may be digital, but it’s packed with whimsical landmarks and adorable creatures. Every map offers a fresh setting with wild mechanics and surprise events that force players to adapt—or get licked.
🌿 Prong Meadow – A lush forest where strategy is grounded—literally. Toggle a central bridge (for a price!) to block enemy paths or open new ones, and watch out for events that reroute the horde from below.
💧 Rickety River – Two bridges. Two crabs. Infinite sabotage. Defend the central island while deciding which bridge gets the moving crab tower platform next—because once it’s placed, it’s everyone’s problem.
🔥 Mount Oomf – Pure mayhem. Lava, landslides, and the mighty Fomosaurus, a mythical dinosaur that attacks anything in sight—Licks or Guardians. Pay to spawn even stronger versions and unleash them on everyone. Fireballs optional. Regret guaranteed.
From serene meadows to volcano-choked arenas, every location is a test of timing, tactics, and just a little bit of trolling.
And this is just the beginning—new maps, events, and surprises are already in the works.
