This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Turn any image into game-ready materials in seconds. GRIEFS Texture Ripper delivers instant PBR map generation, real-time path-traced previews, and a non-destructive workflow. Includes perspective correction, inpainting, cloning, tiling, upscaling, atlas packing, export and more! Create, faster.
We’ve decided not to place any restrictions on purchases, so both the Steam release and the version from our official website include the exact same technical features.
Functionality is identical across both. Steam does allow you to stay logged in on multiple devices at once, though you can’t run the same application simultaneously.
Steam updates may arrive a little later than on our website, but they’ll always stay current.
GRIEFS Texture Ripper is a GPU-accelerated desktop toolkit for game developers, 3D artists, and digital creators who need to turn source images into high-quality, game-ready PBR materials — fast.
Built for speed, precision, and creative control, GRIEFS offers a complete, non-destructive texturing pipeline with real-time feedback and deep customization.
Extract textures efficiently using perspective warping, precise polygonal cropping, aspect ratio tweaking, and reliable snapping. Work directly with multiple images on a unified canvas, keeping complex projects organized with layers, folders, and color tags.
Near-Instant GPU PBR Generation: Create a full PBR set (Albedo, Normal, Displacement, AO, Roughness, Metallic, Emission, Opacity) in milliseconds. Highly customizable settings let you dial in the perfect look.
Real-Time 3D Path-Traced Preview: See exactly how your material behaves under realistic lighting. Features IBL, tessellation, displacement, optional path tracing, and previews on Plane, Sphere, or Rounded Cube meshes.
Live 2D Map Preview: Instantly inspect and switch between generated PBR maps.
Deep Customization: Fine-tune every map parameter with an intuitive editor. Save and load your own presets alongside built-in ones.
Non-Destructive PBR Inpainting: Paint directly onto any generated PBR map (Albedo, Normal, Displacement, AO, Roughness, Metallic, Emission, Opacity) in both 2D and 3D views. Fix errors, add unique details, or blend areas using color painting or a powerful clone stamp tool. Includes optional height map syncing for consistent edits.
AI Upscaling: Enhance low-resolution sources during your workflow or as a final export step. Intelligently sharpens details for crisp results.
Intelligent Seamless Tiling: Make any texture tile perfectly using fast preview or high-quality PatchMatch algorithms with adjustable seam controls.
Optimized Atlas Packing: Automatically generate efficient texture atlases from your defined regions.
Flexible Export: Output textures in PNG, JPG, TIFF, TGA, or HDR formats. Use engine-specific naming conventions (UE, Unity), pack ORM maps, scale/limit resolution, generate color palettes, and pad to power-of-two.
Modern Project Format (.grfs): Compact, zipped projects with embedded thumbnails for easy management and sharing.
Multi-Image Canvas: Drag & drop or paste multiple images directly onto the canvas. Arrange them freely.
Non-Destructive Workflow: Work confidently with Undo/Redo, configurable autosave, and a project trash/restore system.
