This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Search for your lost mother as space pilot Meredith.
Uncover all the dirty secrets of the DISSOLVER company.
Rebel against the system by installing a repair upgrade to repair things instead of just dissolving them.
Bail out your junk eraser ship before the DISSOLVER year is over. After all, if you don't bail out your junk eraser ship, it will never tell you anything about what happened to your lost mother Elaina.
Decide who you will trust and rely on: your surrogate father, a loyal DISSOLVER engineer who has raised you ever since your mother went missing? Your actual father, a man you have never seen before? The rebels? The aliens? Can you even trust your own junk eraser ship?
Can you save the world by repairing things instead of destroying them?
Meredith: She grew up in the childcare unit of the DISSOLVER company. One day when Meredith was still a teenager her mother just didn't return from work. Determined to find out what happened to her mother, Meredith got her pilot license and is now about to board the junk eraser ship 3LS4, the very ship that returned without her mother Elaina.
3LS4: Junk eraser ship. Returned without its pilot Elaina after its last flight. Refuses to hand over Elaina’s pilot logs, since they are protected by the pilot association’s psychological safety agreements. Its particle dissolve projector is powered by a supermassive black hole at its core. If it could move on its own, it would be considered a weapon of mass destruction. Since it has been somewhat erratic ever since returning, it is scheduled for erasure.
Dexter: Meredith's surrogate dad. As a loyal DISSOLVER engineer he happened to be around when Meredith's mother vanished. He mentored and supported Meredith all the way through her studies, but he cannot approve of her boarding a ship about to explode. After all, that's what it did to his laptop when he tried to get Elaina's pilot logs out of junk eraser ship 3LS4.
3LM4R: A customer facing unit working on the DISSOLVER station. He strongly reminds Meredith of Elmar, the customer facing unit in the DISSOLVER kindergarten.
Mikhail: The top mechanic and inventor of the rebels – that is, after Elaina left. He still knows how to install, use and upgrade her most important invention: the repair particle projector.
Chen: Young tractor ship pilot and rebel. Since his home planet got destroyed by a junk eraser ship crashing into it, he was partially raised by Mikhail.
Naaib: The leader of the rebels. He refuses to tell you anything before you have proved your merit.
XorX: Alien tractor ship pilot. He doesn't seem to be very sociable. Maybe that's just because he's an Alien. Maybe.
