This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

The Gold Dungeon is fraught with danger, and as a small, frail goblin, you cannot win a straight fight against any foe – but you have other choices. Throw a Coinbeetle disguised as a bell to lure enemies; Set Nap Traps to put guards soundly to sleep; Use Smoke Mimic to cover your escape. Utilize various skills and items to outsmart and "kite" your enemies.
Deadly dungeon traps? Turn the tables by leading enemies into the traps, leading them to a "Deadly Hide and Seek". Explore hidden areas and discover untold secret treasures. Every path might lead to an unexpected surprise – or fatal danger. Steal weapons right from enemies' hands, grab the goodies from treasure chests, and complete a magnificent heist right under the nose of the Grim Reaper!
Search, Steal, and Evacuate
Upgrading your talent tree doesn't just enhance your exploration and survival abilities; it also unlocks different playstyle builds! Go for the Agile Rogue Build: Use Grappling Hook skills to flee pursuits and Shadow Rewind for rapid repositioning, leaving enemies utterly confused. Prefer the Cunning Trickster Build: Toss coinbeetles to manipulate the enemy's position or play dead until the coast is clear. Or choose the Aggressive Brute Build: Leap from heights to Stun enemies, use an Over-the-Shoulder Throw to knock out a group, or even stand in front of a guard and grab their treasure right before they attack!
Backpack space is limited, with various items and loot occupying different-sized slots. Will you use the item to boost your survival, or leave it intact to sell for profit? Manage your inventory wisely, explore item combos, and make crucial choices between risk and reward.
Cunning Theft or Brute Bandit?
The treasure you stole last night must be sold for a golden price! The rules are simple: repeatedly roll the dice and pair it with the appropriate sales talk to increase the customer's Persuasion Value. Convince the customer, and you can sell the goods for up to three times the original price. But be careful: if you exceed the target number on the dice, the customer will be instantly enraged!
Display collectible figures in your shop to help you sell. Remember: Your eloquence determines your wealth. Bombastic sales pitches, combined with the right collectibles and a bit of luck, will make customers willingly empty their wallets for your black market goods at extraordinary prices.
Roll the Dice, Inflate the Price, but Don't Oversell
The story begins with you as a little goblin drowning in debt. But as your thieving skills improve and your shop business booms, the tide begins to turn. Recruit employees with different attributes: the "Man of Steel" never falls down, the "Storage Expert" carries bigger bags, the one who is "Frail as a Reed" is permanently gone upon death, and the "Lazy" employees who bring back very little. Expand your influence by opening franchises. Powerful figures will seek you out, asking for your assistance. The Adventurers' Guild, a Mysterious Organization... Everyone wants to win you over. Eventually, even the Demon King of the Golden Dungeon will take notice of you, hoping you'll become her new spokesperson!
