Guide: Installing Our Town Hero on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Our Town Hero? Features and Description

Watch the seasons change as you restore a small town to it's former glory & rescue those who have been kidnapped by an ancient vampire, in this cozy retro RPG. Rebuild the town, save the day, and make friends along the way.

After awakening in an inn with no memory, you find yourself in a sleepy little forest town. Within minutes you are chosen by the townsfolk to help restore this beautiful little town to it's former glory. Why? An ancient vampire has awakened, and kidnapped the local townsfolk. There's no barkeep. No innkeeper. Not even a shopkeeper. What's a small town to do?

Each season you will journey into the Vampire's Forest and rescue the kidnapped townsfolk. As you advance through the story, the seasons will change. And the town will grow around you. Harvest resources in the woods. Train your fighting skills. And restore the town to it's former glory. Because you have become, Our Town Hero.

Our Town Hero is a retro RPG that could be described as cozy. It's being designed to evoke a nostalgic feeling, with graphics and music that would fit on a Game Boy Color or SNES. But with modern touches and up-to-date gameplay. One of the central themes of the game is the changing seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall will bring some new weather, decor, and life to your town. The game begins in winter, with your town mostly quiet. Times are bleak. The businesses are closed due to the kidnappings. But by the end, you will hopefully have a thriving and bustling town by years end. You will be the reason this town comes alive once more.

You'll get to know the townsfolk, see how they change through the different seasons, and how they react to you as each villager is rescued. You'll also be able to help them rebuild their businesses, and the forest is thriving with items to harvest.

You'll be able to choose your character's gender, name, along with the names of the town and kingdom you are waking up in. This will be your individual journey in this retro gaming world. Other features will be added as I continue development.

Our Town Hero will feature a retro soundtrack. MIDI's in fact. I love music that evokes that bygone era in gaming. Especially music that reminds me of GBA games. The music will also vary and change for each season.
