This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Enter the blood-soaked arenas of Chains on Sand, a brutal turn-based roguelike where every strike counts. Build a unique gladiator, survive tactical grid-based combat, and rise through fame, death, and legacy — or die forgotten beneath the sand.
Chains on Sand is a brutal, tactical roguelike where you take the role of a gladiator condemned to fight for survival. Start as a nobody, build your legend in the arena, and climb your way toward freedom—or die trying. Every victory earns you loot, gold, and experience—but death is permanent, and the crowd is always watching.
Core Gameplay
• Tactical Combat: Engage in turn-based grid combat with hit locations, active defenses (dodge, parry, block), flanking, knockdowns, and limb damage. Positioning and decision-making are key.

• Character Creation & Growth: Design your fighter using a point-buy system that allows flexible builds. Choose stats, skills, and unique traits that change your fighting style.
• Loot & Equipment: Equip dozens of melee weapons, shields, and armor with varying quality, durability, and weight. Everything your opponent wears can become yours—if you kill them.
• Magic System: Master one or more of four spell schools—Body, Heal, Protection, and Elemental—each with their own unique tactical spells and effects.
• Legacy & Permadeath: Death is final. But those who defeat you may return as deadly opponents in future runs. Retire your most successful gladiators and one day face them again—this time, from the other side of the sand.
• Elite Opponents & Rare Loot: Survive long enough to face powerful champions wielding legendary weapons and armor. Defeating them is your only chance to claim the rarest gear in the game.
• Popularity & Crowd Reactions: Earn the love or hatred of the audience based on your actions. The crowd will demand mercy or death. Disobey at your peril.
• Between Fights: Spend downtime choosing upgrades, selling loot, healing wounds, or reducing your debt to your owner—if you're still a slave.
• Procedural Opponents: Fight a wide variety of enemy archetypes with unique tactics, gear, and personality. No two battles are the same.
