This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
"Interstellar Holy Spirit" is a 1-4 player co-op rogue-lite horror adventure. Explore 20 planets with unique mechanics, survive grinning infected star-creatures. Complete missions together, gather revelations, and uncover the universe's ultimate secret. The truth awaits... are you ready?
"Hey, listen up, crew! I'm Brick Blindside Boulderton. You can call me 'Bulk' or 'Four-Eyes'—just don't use my full name in combat, I can't hear through fogged-up lenses!"
"Here's the deal: We were on a routine deep-space jump when that damn wormhole tossed us into this godforsaken place! With these thick glasses, the world looks like I'm seeing it through jelly—blurry, distorted, and occasionally foggy. But don't underestimate me; my fists are more accurate than my eyesight!"
"This planet... supposedly some ancient civilization's playground, now overrun by things that look like walking seaweed and glowing mushrooms. They're guarding some 'Cosmic Spirit' secret—sounds like sci-fi nonsense, but we're stuck here!"
"Good news: I've got a sick ability! Press Q, and I'll roast enemies with targeted fire—though I can't see flanking attacks while channeling. But hit that right mouse button? Oh man, my ultimate lets everyone feel the 'Brick Special'—complete area annihilation! Teamwork? Sure! Just don't stand in front of me and block my already-limited view!"
"Patch Gearhead Patterson here, certified one-eyed pirate engineer! Missing an eye? Please, it helps me focus on what matters—like fixing your gear or dismantling alien junk into spare parts!"
"This planet is an engineer's heaven and hell combined! Ancient machinery, mysterious power systems, and those 'bio-mechanical' things that move and bite. My job? Figure out how they work—or make them stop working!"
"Press E, and I'll repair or sabotage anything with my multi-tool—though I tend to ignore threats when focused. But my ultimate? Oh baby, that's true engineering artistry! Instant multi-repairs or synchronized demolitions!"
"Heads up: This planet shifts like a mad architect's redesigning it in real-time! We need to watch each other's backs—I fix things, you protect mine. Fair trade?"
"Oh boy! I'm Doc Cross-Eyes Crumble—yes, a doctor! Though I get a little... uh... lightheaded at the sight of blood, my medical skills are top-notch! As long as my hands don't shake too much!"
"This planet... these creatures... they defy all known biological classification! I should be studying these in a lab, not running from them! We're trapped, needing to complete missions to activate some 'exit portal'—sounds like a video game, but this is real! Oh boy, I need to medicate myself just thinking about it!"
"Press Q for my precision targeted healing—though both me and my patient become vulnerable during treatment. But my ultimate? That's my 'Full-Spectrum Emergency Protocol' from med school! Heals everyone at once!"
"Please, everyone, I need protection! I'm a doctor, not a fighter! Though I might occasionally defend myself with a scalpel... oh no, that's too bloody, I'm gonna faint!"
"Hawk Farsight Evergreen here, eagle-eyed scout! I can spot an ant sneezing a kilometer away, but turning too fast makes me dizzy—the price of hyper-vision, folks!"
"This planet's landscape? Absolutely stunning! I can see energy fluctuations beyond mountains, observe creature behavioral patterns. But up-close stuff? Uh, looks like a blurry watercolor painting to me. The planet changes over time, creatures evolve—I gotta stay sharp!"
"My skill's epic: Press Q to teleport-swap with a targeted enemy! Imagine their faces! Though it requires precise long-range targeting. But my ultimate? That's chaos artistry! Total positional reshuffle for everyone!"
"Controls? AWSD to move, mouse to look, E to interact, F for flashlight, right-click to zoom. We gotta work together—I scout, you fight. That's teamwork!"
