Guide: Installing Hell And Back on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Hell And Back? Features and Description

After heaven has made a mighty mistake, using only a trampoline, you must bounce and navigate your way down to retrieve your misplaced soul, then begin the perilous journey back to claim your rightful place in Heaven.

Hell And Back

You were so close to eternal peace at Heaven's Gate, but a mistake sent your soul plummeting into the fiery depths of Hell! Armed with only a Heavenly Trampoline, you must bounce and navigate your way down to retrieve your misplaced soul. Then begin the perilous journey back to claim your rightful place in Heaven.

This game is very simple, don't fall too far unless there's a trampoline to catch you. Either throw your own or use the ones pre-placed on the map. Make your way to the bottom to retrieve your soul, then make your way back up to heaven again with your now soul-infused trampoline.

The Game

  • Don't fall too far, checkpoints might exist to resurrect at but this will eat into your precious time.

  • Use your trampoline to catch your fall, throwing it onto the platforms ahead of you. Tilt your camera up or down to change the angle and distance of the throw.

  • Make your way to the bottom of the map to collect your soul from Hell. Make use of the trampolines placed in the world and the platforms available for your trampoline to land on.

  • Find the perfect lines through the map and make use of the ability to soften your landing to cut out that unnecessary second after bouncing.

  • Then make your way back up to Heaven after you've collected your soul, infusing it with your trampoline to give you extra height when you jump on it.

  • Avoid obstacles that can get in your way and knock you off the path.

  • Get the quickest time you possibly can, with checkpoint times and best times being automatically monitored for you, allowing you to see exactly where you can improve.
