This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Step into the shoes of a lone wanderer in a ruined world, guarding the last ember of hope. Solve creative light-based puzzles, battle predators lurking in the shadows, and uncover the forgotten secrets of a broken land in this emotional platformer adventure.
EmberFall: A Flame Rekindled in a World of Ash
Become a nameless wanderer and follow a faint ember through a world reduced to cinders. Silent forests and dried-up rivers hold remnants of a forgotten past and buried truths. With each step you take, the ember flickers brighter. But who was it meant for?
A World That Changes With You
The desolate, lifeless landscapes begin to shift and transform through your journey. Each boss you defeat subtly alters the world, reflecting the impact of your actions. What starts as barren ruins slowly blossoms with traces of life, turning your journey into a symbol of true change—beyond just visual flair.
A Soundtrack That Evolves
The music in EmberFall isn’t just background—it breathes with your progress. As you move forward and reshape the world, the score transforms from somber tones to melodies filled with hope and warmth, deepening immersion and emotional resonance.
Light as a Puzzle, Shadows as an Enemy
Solve puzzles centered around the innovative use of light and shadow. These intuitive challenges grow more complex as the game progresses, pushing you to think creatively and feel rewarded when you succeed.
But light alone isn't enough. Hidden in the darkness are predators corrupted by the void. Combat is more than attack and dodge—it demands smart use of the light mechanics you've mastered. Each boss has unique patterns and weaknesses that must be understood and exploited to prevail.
Fragments of a Deeper Story
As you piece together the scattered remnants of the world’s lore, you’ll uncover the origins of its downfall—and your own identity. Through encounters with mysterious characters, hidden documents, and environmental storytelling, you’ll experience a journey filled with emotion and meaning beyond gameplay.
Follow the ember, walk through the ashes, and spark a new beginning in EmberFall.
