This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
As a Dwarf, it if your duty to dig in the search of a legendary pickaxe. Collect gems, sell and upgrade. All in glorious virtual reality. Family-friendly fun.
You’re a dwarf. You dig holes. That’s your job.
In Only DWARVES DIG Proper HOLES, hold onto your beard and grab your shovel—there’s endless ground beneath your feet and no good reason to stop digging.
What's down there? Maybe treasure. Maybe doom. Probably both. Legend speaks of a mighty dwarf buried deep underground with his legendary pickaxe. Your companions found the tomb's location, but getting there is your task. You've got a shovel, climbing skills, a trusty grappling hook, and the occasional terrifying drop if you accidentally dig the cave ceiling. You can buy lights at the store, and you do have help—but only when it comes to drinking beer. No plan though. So, what are you waiting for?
Forget the usual heroic quests. There's no world-saving, no epic battles—just you, the earth, and the creeping suspicion that things are getting... weird.
Dig through immersive VR terrain, discover hidden caves, and manually climb your way back up.
Drink beers to regain energy.
Find story-driven items by following mysterious noises.
Did we mention drinking beers?
Upgrade your tools, including a grappling hook to climb faster, torches to light the way and more.
Approximately 3-5 hours of dwarven adventure and discovery!
What's the planned price?
We plan to release at $4.99. Wishlist now and enjoy a 20% launch discount!
Is my headset supported?
Probably! It was developed for Quest 3, Quest 2, and Bigscreen, although we tried to support all headsets. In the worst case, you can always request a refund!
Do you have a press kit?
Yes, you can find all of the assets on the game’s website (see the link on the right).
Did you find the ever-flowing beer river?
We refuse to answer this.
What songs are best for whistling while digging?
Dwarven songs, obviously!
I'm an influencer—is this game easy to stream and record?
Absolutely! We've included camera smoothing specifically for the 2D recorded view, making it ideal for streaming and perfect for speedrunners too!
Will I experience motion sickness?
This game is not the safest for motion sickness, as it involves walking, climbing, falling, and grappling. We consider its motion sickness level moderate.
