Guide: Installing Alternative Alliance Alpha on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Alternative Alliance Alpha? Features and Description

Alternative Alliance Alpha is a short and gentle sci-fi post-apocalyptic adventure set in the distant future. Take control of the young man Jinovika as you explore the world beyond the colony—gathering resources, meeting new people, and enjoying everyday life in this strange world.

          ■ Overview

Alternative Alliance Alpha (AL2α) is a short, whimsically gentle sci-fi post-apocalyptic adventure set in the distant future. Lighthearted on the surface, yet never without its shadows. Jinovika, a young man, finds himself drawn into a new daily life—exploring the world beyond the colony alongside Armalion, his living partner in the form of a reinforced suit.

          ■ Features

          • Low commitment, low-calorie playtime (approx. 30 minutes each for Part 1 and Part 2, about 1 hour total*)
          • A wide variety of storylines you won’t see all in a single playthrough
          • Multiple endings
          • Low difficulty—no game-overs or dead ends

*Both Part 1 and Part 2 are included in this single title.
A demo version of Part 1 is available.
There is no save data or story carryover between Part 1 and Part 2.

          ■ Other Features (for better or worse)

          • Human faces are generally not depicted.
          • The overall tone is relatively calm and subdued.

          ■ Game System

          Explore outside the colony
Gather resources by venturing out. You may also encounter new characters or make unexpected discoveries.

          Deliver resources
Turning in resources increases your evaluation level, unlocking new story content and exploration areas.

          ■ Story

One day, a massive hole tore open in the sky. The sandstorms that poured from it disrupted global communication, leaving each colony isolated. Before long, strange and unknown creatures began to roam the lands outside the colonies. People called them [Hybrid Beasts.] In a world transformed, each colony began to seek its own path to survival.

Time passed since the onset of chaos. Humanity found new ways to live. One of them was the living enhanced suit [Armalion]—gear capable of withstanding both the storms and the hybrid beasts. Though only a few could wear them, these suits became a symbol of hope for those sheltering within the colonies.

This is the story of one such enhanced suit—and the young man who would come to wear it.
