This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

A Garden Story Known Only to "Me" and "Him"
◆ About This Game
This game is a visual novel where you progress through the story by deciphering language, similar to solving a puzzle. The protagonist, "Me," will spend 90 days living with "Him," a beastman in a cage. His words are in an unknown language, but you can decipher them based on his reactions and context. By connecting with him, the hidden truth may be revealed.
◆ Story:
War between humans and the beastmen tribes living on the frontier is imminent. The beastmen tribes are said to be extremely violent and unable to communicate. "Me," a linguist who wants to stop the war for a certain reason, proposed to the country to research the beastmen's language and negotiate with them. One day, "Him," a beastman imprisoned in a cage as a research sample, is sent to "Me." The 90-day story of "Me" and "Him" begins here.
◆ System:
Become "Me," a linguist, and decipher the words of "Him," the beastman. The given time limit is 90 days. As you increase the number of words you understand through over 100 topics, special events will occur, deepening your relationship with "Him." Furthermore, you will approach the truth hidden behind the war.
◆ Inspiration:
If you encounter a word that you cannot understand no matter what, use "Inspiration." By doing so, "Me" can flash on the correct answer to the word. Inspiration recovers over time and through events. Please use it strategically. (Inspiration may not be available depending on the difficulty level.)
◆ Dictionary:
Words that have been successfully deciphered are recorded in the dictionary. Please use it when you want to look back on the deciphered words.
◆ Multiple Endings:
There are a total of 8 endings that "Me" and "Him" will reach. What path will the two take beyond the barriers of words and race?
