This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A philosophical adventure set in a surreal world. Step into the role of Sisyphus, pushing a stone to the peak of a mountain. Accumulate strength as you repeatedly push the stone upward, set up your camp with the help of unique characters, and traverse four distinct locations to achieve your goal.
Embrace the challenge, ponder the meaning, and conquer the eternal struggle in The Sisyphus Journey - a philosophical adventure where every ascent is a test of both body and soul.
Your sole purpose is to push a colossal stone to the peak of the mountain. Along the way, you must rally your strength, make allies and enemies, establish and expand your base camp, and explore four distinct regions - all while questioning the very meaning of your existence.
Your journey began in death - not a noble end, but a bleak and unremarkable passing. Yet, death was only the beginning. Cursed to an eternity of ceaseless struggle, you find yourself trapped in a world that exists either to enlighten or to torment you. No one has shed light on the true purpose of your burden. You are condemned to an endless cycle, where suffering is perpetual and the burden of carrying that immense stone is your only destiny.
As you can understand from the introduction, the main mechanics of the game is pushing a stone to the top of a mountain. The one and only characteristic of the character is strength. Of course, it is not enough to climb the first time. You will do it again, and again, and again. The path to the top goes through 4 locations. Plain, forest, hills and slope.
The strength decreases as the stone is pushed, and each time the counter reaches zero, Sisyphus will run out of his breath, return to his base camp, and be forced to start over.
Your basecamp is both sanctuary and staging ground for your ascents. Here, a crackling campfire serves as your primary source of rejuvenation. Resting near its warmth refills your strength, allowing you to venture further with each new climb. Throughout your journey, the evolution of your camp will mirror your in-game choices, offering both practical benefits and unexpected surprises.
IThis cursed world isn’t empty. Along your path, you’ll encounter other lost souls also condemned to eternal struggle. Meet enigmatic figures like Juliet, Spartacus, Nimrod, and Ponce de Leon—each bearing their own unique curse. Engage in conversations that peel back the layers of this troubled realm. But be warned: every interaction costs you precious strength, a trade-off that may alter the course of your quest. Yet, forging alliances might provide invaluable support along your arduous journey.
As you battle the mountain and your own limits, haunting visions begin to emerge—glimpses of life beyond death, fragments of what might await your family. These visions serve as both a source of hope and a reminder of the life you've lost. Will they drive you to greater heights, or plunge you deeper into despair?
