Guide: Installing Cast n Chill on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Cast n Chill? Features and Description

Cast n Chill is a cozy idle (and active) fishing game where you explore serene lakes, rivers, and oceans. Catch rare fish, upgrade your gear and reel in legendary catches - all with your loyal companion by your side.

Cast n Chill's a laid-back fishin’ game for folks who’d rather wet a line than break a sweat. Whether yer driftin’ on a lazy lake, pokin’ 'round a winding river, or droppin’ lines in salty blue water, this here’s a game where you set the pace.

        Upgrade Yer Gear

Start with the basics, catch whatever bites, sell your haul, and put those coins toward better rods, reels, and upgrades. Before ya know it, you’ll be wranglin’ rare species that’d make any angler green with envy.

        Explore New Waters

Find yer favourite fishin’ hole or keep wanderin’. There’s 13 peaceful spots to discover, each with its own critters swimmin’ 'round, just waitin’ to bite.

        Pick Your Pace

In Active Mode, you’re in the thick of it - castin’, reelin’, and keepin’ busy like a loon at nesting time.

Switch to Passive Mode if you’d rather let the game do the work while you’re off choppin’ wood.

Set it up on a second monitor or tuck it in the corner - come back later and see what kind o’ haul the fish gods left ya.

        Collect 'Em All

There’s 50 fish to discover - some you’ll recognize, some you’ll squint at and go “what in the heck is that?” From scrappy little sunfish to big ol’ deepwater beasts, they’re all in the logbook waitin’ for your name.

        Legendary Catches

There’s 13 fish out there that still get folks jabberin’ at ol' Rusty's bait shop like they saw Bigfoot ride a moose. Land one, and you'll be part o' the legend.

        Boat Buddies

A day on the water’s better with company. Bring along a trusty companion. They might not know a spinnerbait from a spoon, but they’ll help you spot a fish - if only 'cause they’re hopin’ for a bite themselves.
