This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Arriving in a scenic town filled with flowers, Sho and Ren encounters Haru and the others working at a café.
Taking up residence on the second floor, Sho begins working alongside them.
But one day, he spots Haru sneaking out alone in the dead of night and decides to follow her.
Far from town, beneath a pale moonlit tree on a hill surrounded by flowers as far as the eye can see,
Sho witnesses the moment a small girl in Haru’s arms turns into a flower.
Noticing Sho, Haru smiles sadly at the magnificently blooming flowers.
“This is how I’ve managed to survive in this world. But I want to keep on living. Even if that means exchanging another’s life.”
Looking up at the falling petals with Haru, Sho declares:
“No matter what this world forces upon you… No matter how much others will condemn
you…”
“I'll wish for this world to end.”
Haru (Voice: Sawasawa Sawa)
The second of three sisters who work at Famille, the café on the outskirts of town.
She also acts as the café’s manager, in charge of cakes and sweets.
A gentle and easy-going girl whose smile never fades, even in times of trouble.
But in truth, she’s the most strong-willed and stubborn of her sisters.
Due to her inability to go to bed at a reasonable hour, hardly a single day goes by without her being late. Mostly because of how much time she spends writing in her diary.
Kotose (Voice: Iroha Natsumine)
The eldest of the three sisters who work at Famille.
Mainly in charge of the dining floor, as well as tea and drinks.
Somewhat of a meddling caretaker, as big sisters tend to be.
An elegant and graceful beauty who always takes jokes at face value, making her fun to tease.
Being an avid reader, she is a regular at the local bookstore.
She also grows her own tea leaves at home the old-fashioned way.
Yukina (Voice: Wakaba Tani)
The youngest of the three sisters.
Her job is mainly serving customers and making little crafts.
A cheerful, fearless girl who doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind.
Although a fun-loving free spirit, she is also the one able to observe things most clearly among her sisters.
Skilled with handiwork, her specialty is crafting bookmarks.
Has a habit of grinning widely, showing her teeth when she smiles.
Ren (Voice: Hana Akino)
The young girl who arrives in town with Sho.
Although she takes up residence at Famille, she mainly works as more of the café’s mascot, rather than a waitress.
The word “innocent” describes her perfectly, and her emotions are always plain to see on her face.
Her adorableness soothes all who watch her.
Has a habit of apologizing, made all the more guilt-inducing due to her appearance.
She is very fond of Sho, much like a little sister.
