This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A narrative-driven tower defense game that plunges you into a cursed realm. Guide a 10-year-old girl, scarred by relentless school bullying and family neglect, as she battles monstrous embodiments of her inner torment in a desperate quest to recover her lost brother—and ultimately, herself.
Miryam: The Polluted Land takes players on a chilling journey into the heart of emotional turmoil. Ten-year-old Miryam was on the brink. At school, those nasty kids relentlessly mocked her clothes and accent, sometimes even pelting her with stones. At home, her mother’s world revolved around the newborn, leaving Miryam with nothing but orders—"Make the formula!" "Get the diapers!" "Be quiet!" Resentment coiled inside her, tightening day by day, until one evening she whispered to her little brother a wish she didn’t fully mean:
"I wish you would disappear."
And then, he was gone—as if the universe had heard her plea and obeyed. But the price was steep. Miryam herself was cast into the Land of Nod, a cursed, forsaken place where reality twisted and shadows whispered her name.
Here, Miryam meets the mysterious Cultivator, who promises to help her find her brother in exchange for her help in cleansing the land of its monstrous corruption.
But the creatures she faces are far from ordinary; each one seems to tear apart the emotional scars she has endured—scars inflicted by bullying, neglect, and the torment of feeling unseen and unwanted. As she battles through them, Miryam begins to question whether she is truly seeking her brother... or running away from herself.
Narrative-Driven Experience
Explore the psychological journey of a young girl caught in the depths of bullying and emotional neglect. As Miryam, you’ll face monsters that mirror the real-world trauma of schoolyard taunts, family neglect, and unresolved pain. The game blends dark fantasy with a deep, personal story, forcing you to confront Miryam’s inner demons alongside the literal ones.
20+ Defensive Structures
Defend Miryam from the nightmarish creatures that roam the Land of Nod by strategically placing over 20 different types of Defenses. From explosive Clay Pots to the agile Moths that clear toxic fog, each structure offers a unique way to stop the oncoming horde. Some structure specialize in heavy damage, while others offer utility or crowd control. How you combine these will determine your success!
40+ Monsters with Unique Abilities
Face off against over 40 different monsters, each with distinct abilities and weaknesses. From Kaomen and Lizardmen to the sinister Sin-themed creatures like Greed and Lust, the enemies you encounter are reflections of Miryam’s emotional state, as well as formidable threats in combat.
40+ Challenging Levels
The Land of Nod is vast and varied. Each of the 40+ levels offers a unique set of challenges with different monster combinations. The way you place your Defenses matters—some monsters move quickly, while others can phase through walls or turn invisible. Each level requires careful thought and strategy to survive.
PvZ-like Mechanics
Embrace a classic tower defense experience with a twist. In Miryam: The Polluted Land, there’s no need to collect resources like sunflowers. Instead, focus on resource balancing that can hold off the relentless waves of creatures. Every decision you make counts as you strategize the best combinations of Defenses to stop different types of monsters.
