This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Travel through the creature and anomaly filled Abyss in this hardcore first person survival experience that takes place inside Chelyabinsk-40 after the Kyshtym Disaster. Scavenge for resources, avoid anomalies, hide from Ash Storms, and complete quests to uncover the truth. Will you Survive?
Experience a hardcore survival game with realistic weapon mechanics, in-depth survival systems, and hostile NPCs, as well as anomalies and creatures. Featuring multiple factions, tactical weapon handling, permadeath mode, questline, and extraction systems to safeguard your gear.
Navigate "The Abyss" and search loot containers for gear to sell, craft, or use to better help you survive. Certain items will be required to progress, making exploration an essential part of the game, your character is a scavenger searching through a land left broken in search of any way to hold onto their survival.
The anomalies emerged when the land became unstable after the very first Ash Storm emerged. They range from manageable to outright dangerous in every way. They can give you a range from a little shock to ripping you limb from limb, best to avoid these when you see them. They do have their benefits by creating artifacts that can be sold or used to better prepare you for survival in risky situations.
The world is divided into multiple locations, each with its own unique purpose, requiring players to travel between areas to progress. Levels are connected by transition zones that are on a timer, forcing you to fend off enemies to survive. The extract zones work similar but go back to the base where you can store your loot, sell/buy with traders, and accept/complete tasks to level up.
In The Abyss the only way to progress is power. Complete tasks and survive raids to level up and unlock new attachments, vendors, and locations. Design your base how you want, buy furniture from vendors and place loot items freely. Create items at the crafting benches that can be placed around your base, some are powered by the generator. There is secondary progression with the available equipment that progressively gets more useful over time.
Choose from a variety of factions, each with its own base, clothing, and side quests to immerse you in the universe. The factions include Bandits, The Remains, and the Plague Walkers, each offering unique gameplay. Bandits and Remains are rival scavengers fighting for survival, while the Plague Walkers are infected survivors trying to fight off full mutation.
Roadblocks are placed to slow progression through the world, ensuring players must reach certain levels to advance through "The Abyss." As you progress through the game, these roadblocks will be removed, allowing access to new areas, loot, and quests.
"The Abyss" is what the survivors called the zone after the "accident" happened. It’s a land left victim to those who thought they were smart enough to fight off death itself. The area is left full of anomalies, rival factions, and mutated beasts. You must survive "The Abyss" and free yourself and those you care for from the disaster that was brought upon them by humanity itself.
