This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A first-person exploration game where you walk through eerie and realistic spaces, searching for an exit. Powered by Unreal Engine's Lumen, it's perfect for those who enjoy quiet walks or simple games. Use the sandbox feature to create your own space! Requires a DirectX12-compatible GPU.
Explore, create... or venture beyond.
LIMSCAPE is a game where you can freely explore mysterious and quiet spaces.
You can simply walk through the world and still enjoy it fully.
But if you wish, you can also reshape the world with your own hands.
Whether you’re here to explore or to create using it as a tool, LIMSCAPE offers a world you can enjoy at your own pace.
Begin your journey with five carefully crafted official stages.
Hotels, flood control facilities, metro systems, pools, office buildings, cities──
Familiar yet unsettling liminal spaces invite you into a silent journey.
Each stage contains a hidden message: a fragment of LIMSCAPE's essence.
The conditions for clearing a stage are extremely simple.
Just move and aim for the goal.
That’s where everything begins.
However, LIMSCAPE is not just about walking.
Swim, jump, crouch, climb, pick up objects, throw──
All natural human body functions are realized with simple, intuitive controls.
At first, walking will be enough to progress, but soon you'll need to climb, swim, and leap,
transitioning from flat movement to vertical action.
Various situations will make your exploration deeper and more exciting.
And in the end, you will realize:
Why you kept entering LIMSCAPE to seek the goal──
What LIMSCAPE truly is, and what its role means.
Another hidden, equally important way to experience the game.
"Create your own world. ── Don't be a pawn, be the hand."
"LIMSCAPE" is not just a walking game.
After completing your journey through the official stages,
you'll discover another possibility:
──The world can be shaped with your own hands.
The game features a simple, accessible sandbox mode.
- Place objects with just a few clicks
- Freely control lighting, shadows, and physics
- Edit the space in real-time and breathe life into your creations
Created worlds can be saved, exported, and imported.
External sharing is already supported, and a featured world showcase system within the app is planned for future updates.
From explorer to creator.
LIMSCAPE quietly supports your first steps.
【Attention】
Important information before purchase:
"LIMSCAPE" is recommended for users with a desktop PC equipped with a dedicated GPU.
Laptops or devices with limited graphics performance may not provide an optimal experience.
This game is not designed to pursue ultra-high framerates.
It is optimized for up to 60fps, but remains smooth and cinematic even around 25fps.
(Even on high-end PCs, limiting the framerate can often provide a smoother, lighter experience.)
Mastering the sandbox functionality requires a certain level of commitment.
However, the game is designed to be enjoyed progressively,
allowing you to slowly build your own world at your own pace.
"LIMSCAPE" is also designed to serve as a creation tool
for visual, artistic, or multimedia projects.
【Vision】
A world in constant expansion.
"LIMSCAPE" continues to evolve.
Currently focused on single-player gameplay, future updates aim to add VR support and multiplayer features.
Multiplayer will support private sharing via invitations.
(※ A public user world-sharing platform is not planned for the current Steam version.)
This is not just a game of exploration.
It is also a world-building tool, and a platform aiming to enable new forms of communication and creative expression.
Our ultimate goal:
To create a completely new kind of metaverse where voices and video blend together for genuine communication.
Far beyond simple text chats or avatar-only interactions,
it offers a communication experience where you can truly feel each other's "presence."
This journey has only just begun.
The worlds you create will expand the universe of LIMSCAPE.
【Platform Compatibility Notice】
〇Mac / Crossover Compatibility
Currently, LIMSCAPE does not run properly on macOS using Crossover. This issue is believed to be due to Unreal Engine’s use of Shader Model 6 (SM6) and DirectX 12, which are not fully supported by Crossover at this time.
On native Mac environments, hardware global illumination (hardware ray tracing) used by LIMSCAPE is not available. While software global illumination may function, both graphics quality and performance are significantly reduced and do not meet the standards we wish to deliver. Therefore, official macOS support is currently undecided.
If macOS (Metal) and Unreal Engine fully support the same rendering features as Windows in the future, we are fully prepared to release a Mac version promptly.
〇LIMSCAPE Platform Compatibility (As of 2025)
LIMSCAPE is designed as a high-end rendering focused project, utilizing Shader Model 6 (SM6) and DirectX 12 as its core rendering technologies.
As a result, the number of compatible environments is currently limited. However, as engines and hardware evolve and expand support, we plan to release native versions for each platform as compatibility becomes available.
At this time, official support is limited to Windows only.
There have been reports of LIMSCAPE running on Steam Deck, but this has not been officially tested or verified.
Platform Compatibility Details
