This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Background of the story:
1562 years before the protagonist's story began, civilization had advanced to the point where it could harness the entire solar system's resources. Yet, even with this vast array of resources, the escalating population crisis persisted, and the resulting conflicts and struggles failed to be adequately contained. Eventually, this led to a devastating world war that engulfed the entire solar system, compelling all factions to engage in this horrific conflict. Over the course of thirteen centuries, this prolonged war continually accelerated technological advancements, promoted the emergence of interstellar voyage technology. There are constantly forces leaving for various reasons, embarking on interstellar voyages in an attempt to find new habitable planets.
Ultimately, the war in the solar system was brought to an end by a new imperial power, a highly centralized entity born from the conflict. This empire sacrificed flexibility for efficiency, with everything theoretically under the rule of the emperor. After the war's conclusion, the empire entered a period of recuperation lasting 80 years. However, as the war ended and education became more widespread among the populace, an increasing number of people could no longer tolerate the myriad issues that accompanied the empire's monolithic structure. Beneath the empire's serene facade, turmoil brewed. In response to various considerations, the authorities began to gradually expand outwards, aiming to alleviate internal contradictions and seek to reclaim the various forces that had previously departed, incorporating them into the empire's domain in the hope of achieving a new balance.
After a long voyage and a fierce competition for habitable planets, only a small fraction of spaceships that left the Solar System survived. The remaining spaceships, upon reaching the Eternal Stellar System and achieving stability, established the Interstellar Alliance 187 years ago. The primary objectives of the Alliance are to maintain the stability of the Eternal Stellar System and foster collaboration among all forces within it. The Alliance adopts a seat system, where each force holds a certain number of seats. 182 years ago, when the Empire began its expansion, the Alliance engaged in protracted confrontations and diplomatic negotiations with it, while gradually drawing in neutral forces to enhance its capability to counter the Empire's expansion.
Prior to this, people who settled on other habitable planets aboard spaceships formed various neutral forces. These neutral forces developed their unique characteristics based on the demographics and traits of their respective spaceship populations, such as the business-oriented Free Planet PeaceRealm. The competition for habitable planets during interstellar voyages had led to lingering distrust among these neutral forces when interacting with each other. It was only after the Empire began its expansion that these neutral forces gradually set aside their prejudices and began seeking cooperation. However, some martial factions were not among them, as they preferred to develop through plundering, exemplified by the Planet Sinful, which, after three centuries of development, had become a haven for outlaws.
The Interstellar Heroes organization was initially founded by a group of people who held a strong sense of justice. Having witnessed the rapid decline of morality under the influence of war and long voyages, they decided to join together with like-minded individuals to uphold chivalry and righteousness, with the hope of gradually restoring social justice in the interstellar society.
984 years ago, the ancestors of the WisdomScript tribe were also a group who fled the Solar System, with their spaceship filled with scientists and scholars proficient in biology or machinery. Prior to their arrival on Planet WisdomScript, the two schools of Life and Machinery gradually evolved. For 793 years after reaching Planet WisdomScript, the two schools have always helped and supported each other, working together to research technology and create many amazing innovations, with potential conflicts and disagreements largely concealed. One day, a significant mutation occurred among a large number of life forms, causing them to lose their sanity. Simultaneously, the control logic of newly produced machinery was tampered with and sabotaged by unknown individuals, leading to the experimental subjects and machines going haywire. The uncontrolled experiments and machines inflicted severe damage on the planet, destroying and burying most of the achievements of the planet's civilization, turning it into a desolate wasteland. Even today, one can still see the wandering, irrational mutants around the planet. The survivors became interstellar refugees, forced to flee Planet WisdomScript.
When I was developing this game, I was in a very bad state and the final product I made did not meet my expectations. Therefore, I decided to make this game free and open source the code on GitHub:
