Guide: Installing Breeze of Ashes on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Breeze of Ashes? Features and Description

A lane pusher to the core with a strong focus on soloplay, supports multiplayer for up to 8 players. Stack modules and auto-firing weapons on your capital ships. Includes two rather unique campaigns and a very relaxing small colony builder.

          Lane Pusher

Breeze of Ashes is a strategy game heavily inspired by all kinds of lane pushing games. As such, in most game modes and maps, the main objective is to destroy the core of the opposing force. Different game modes shuffle the rules around to challenge you in various ways. Stack all sorts of modules and auto-firing weapons on your capital ships to turn the tide in your favor.

          Quick Start

Some maps provide you with a budget to deploy and construct an initial base and starting army. Production and construction are instant in this phase. Make your choices quickly, as the timer runs out fast.

          Campaigns

There are two distinct campaigns waiting for you.

The Grand Campaign pits you against a number of factions. Conquer provinces which provide benefits to your empire. Improve your empire via three development tracks, including a dedicated victory track. Engage the opposition with troops and decide battles by playing cards unique to your faction.

In the Convoy Campaign you need to strike a balance between developing your colony and your fleet. Length and difficulty settings define how many people you need to save to achieve victory. Lifeboats are sourced from your army, thus weakening you in missions. Along the way, you unlock technologies which you may take with you on your next run—should this one fail.

          Colony

Grow your colony by constructing buildings with special roles and benefits. Each building is limited by charges, which restricts expansion. Deconstructing a building improves the underlying tile and returns a charge. You are tasked with completing a set of goals, but this is your safe space. Here you may concentrate on building the most efficient colonies you can think of.

          Boss Battle

There is a dedicated game mode in which you will face bosses. The whole map will try to defeat you, so it may be wise to either rush the boss or dismantle their production facilities. Additionally, you may design your own boss and battle against preset or community bosses. Winning in "Boss Versus Boss" battles improves your score. Currently, your last boss is uploaded to the leaderboard and becomes available as an encounter for other players.

          Key Features:

          • Lane-pushing strategy with modular, auto-firing capital ships

          • Multiple game modes and maps with shifting rules and objectives

          • Two distinct campaigns with persistent progression systems

          • Colony building as a safe space during campaigns and as a standalone skirmish

          • Custom boss creation

          • Focus on Singleplayer but with Multiplayer support

          Is This Game for You?

Breeze of Ashes is for players who enjoy strategic planning, systems that stack and interact, and making meaningful choices under pressure. If you like lane-pushing gameplay, asymmetric factions, and campaigns that reward long-term thinking, you will feel at home.

If you are looking for a pure action game, a traditional RTS with full micromanagement, or a purely narrative experience, this may not be the right fit.
