This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
The world has turned to ash, and civilization has collapsed. The chosen savior isn't a soldier, but a Gamer who spent their life behind a screen. Transform an old train into a mobile death machine, deploy turrets, manage your economy, and never stop moving. On these endless rails, to stop is to die
THE GRAND PLAN BACKFIRED. World leaders and the scientists serving them aimed to reduce humanity under the guise of "population control." But there was one variable they didn't calculate: The dead didn't go quietly. They came back. When billions of corpses rose again with an insatiable hunger, kingdoms fell, armies collapsed, and the world was buried in dark ash.
Outside, there is only death and zombies. But for one person, this apocalypse is merely the simulation they have been preparing for all their life.
As a master of strategy and reflexes whose life has been spent in front of a computer, you have turned the scrap train next to your house into humanity's last stronghold. Your mission is simple but seemingly impossible: Circle the globe without stopping, gather resources, evolve, and don't release the trigger until the last zombie on earth is dead.
Turn an ordinary locomotive into a rolling fortress. Your train is not just a vehicle; it is your home, your weapon, and your shield.
AI Turrets: Establish strategic defense lines across your train wagons.
Manual Control: When things get out of hand, take the helm of the powerful main turret and show off your marksmanship.
Speed & Fuel Balance: The faster you drive, the safer you are, but you will burn fuel much quicker. If you can't find the balance, you become dinner for the zombies.
Pulling the trigger isn't enough; survival is a matter of mathematics.
Scrap Economy: Collect rare parts along the rails. Make the right investments to upgrade your turrets.
Random Upgrades (Roguelite): Adapt your strategy instantly with random power-ups granted every time you level up.
Radar & Tracking: Spot enemy waves in advance and adjust your route and defenses accordingly.
The enemy isn't just the zombies; your own body can betray you.
Hunger & Thirst: You must manage your character's biological needs while mowing down zombie hordes.
Dark Atmosphere: Outside is pitch black and full of ash. Fear is the most loyal passenger on this journey.
Mobile Base Defense: A dynamic Tower Defense experience on a constantly moving train.
Hybrid Combat System: Manage automated AI turrets while directly intervening in the battle by controlling the manual turret at critical moments.
Deep Economy Management: Build a tense strategy involving limited resources, rare parts, and fuel management.
Randomized Upgrade System: Luck and strategy-based leveling mechanics that make every playthrough unique.
Dark Apocalyptic Atmosphere: Immersive visuals set in ruined cities, ash-covered plains, and endless darkness.
Endless Horde: Massive enemy waves that get progressively harder with the goal of clearing every single zombie on Earth.
You don't need to be a hero to save the world. You just need to be a good gamer. Start the engine. The journey through hell begins.
